Deadpool 2 Celebrates Thanksgiving With Poster And Good Housekeeping Magazine

Deadpool 2 won’t be gracing theaters until next June but it’s never too early to start preparing for the Merc with a Mouth, is it? With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday approaching, the marketing campaign for the sequel to the R-rated comic book movie has officially begun.

First, a teaser poster for the movie has been released. It shows Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and his nearest and dearest gathering for Thanksgiving dinner. The image is an homage to the Normal Rockwell painting “Freedom from Want” and includes all of the characters you need to remember from the first movie–including taxi driver Dopinder (Karan Soni)–along with newcomers Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz). The poster even contains a Stan Lee cameo.

Somehow, the poster isn’t the more bizarre of the two promotional pieces. As it turns out, Deadpool is also serving as a guest editor for Good Housekeeping. A promotional issue of the magazine featuring the masked vigilante on the cover, has been released with copies being handed out in cities around the Unites States.

It’s not just a clever cover, though. Collider got their hands on an issue and it’s filled with helpful holiday tips from Deadpool himself. In the pages of this magazine, the character has written a letter to readers, shared some of his favorite recipes–including D’s Spiced Nuts and Creamy Clam Skinny Dip-along with six easy step to carving up your Thanksgiving turkey. Of course, Deadpool is using a katana to do his carving.

If this is what Deadpool 2 has up its sleeve over six months before the movie releases, chances are things are only going to get better from here. You can see Deadpool 2 in theaters on June 1, 2018.

The Game Awards 2017 Date And First Details Revealed

With the end of the year coming up, it’s almost time for The Game Awards. Now, event organizers have announced when the show will be held and some of the first details.

This year’s event is taking place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday, December 7. As in past years, it will be streamed live around the world, with localized versions for Chinese, South Korean, and Japanese viewers.

In addition to awards, the broadcast will feature game announcements and new trailers, along with musical performances. New for the 2017 show is The Game Awards Orchestra, which is a group of “some of the world’s most talented orchestral and rock musicians.” These performers will be joined by “special guests,” and they will perform video game music.

As for the awards themselves, the nominees will be announced on November 14. We’ll report back with the full list at that time. Additionally, there will be a “Game Awards Sale,” which will see nominated games discounted on PSN, Xbox Live, and other platforms. The sale will run in early December.

Last year’s event drew 8.5 million viewers, organizers said. Blizzard’s hero shooter Overwatch took home the Game of the Year award in 2016.

Tickets for the 2017 event are on sale now here; they start at $40 and go all the way up to $200 for a VIP package that gets you a closer seat to the front, access to a pre-show reception, and a lot more. The show is organized by gaming industry veteran Geoff Keighley.

Disclosure: GameSpot is a streaming partner for the 2017 Game Awards.

New Star Wars Movie Trilogy Being Developed By Rian Johnson

Disney has announced that Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is returning to the franchise to develop a new trilogy of films after the release of Star Wars: Episode IX. Additionally, Johnson will also write and direct the first installment of the new trilogy.

The announcement shows exactly what Disney has planned for the series after the ninth film in the Skywalker saga (Episodes I through IX). According to StarWars.com, this new trilogy will be separate from that saga, introducing new characters from a part of the Star Wars galaxy the previous films have never explored. Johnson is developing the new movies with his longtime producer Ram Bergman.

In a statement, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says, “We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

Johnson and Bergman shared their excitement about the possibilities that come with creating their own corner of the Star Wars universe. In a joint statement, the director and producer say, “We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi. Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.” Johnson also tweeted about the news, joking, “Obviously I hope you like The Last Jedi. But man now I REALLY hope you like The Last Jedi.”

The news of the new trilogy comes the same day as the announcement that a live-action Star Wars TV series is in the works for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, which is expected to launch in 2019. At this point there is no release date for the first installment of the new trilogy. The Johnson-directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be in theaters on December 16. Star Wars: Episode IX will follow on December 20, 2019. That film will be directed by Star Wars: The Force Awakens helmer JJ Abrams.

Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy Season Finale Review

It’s unfortunate that the capstone episode to Telltale’s overall great Guardians adaptation ended up being one of the most inconsistent. It feels like half of an epic finale in too big of a box, surrounded by those foam packing peanuts that you’re just going to throw away. The emotional high notes in Episode 5: Don’t Stop Believin’ ring loud and clear, but between them are valleys of underwhelming and sometimes confusing character writing.

It’s very difficult to talk about this episode without giving any kind of spoilers, though I’ll do my best to be cagey. My biggest criticism is how the inevitable “getting the band back together” was handled. At the end of Episode 4, the Guardians were on the skids, having all gone their separate ways due to seemingly irreconcilable differences. Episode 5 opens with two of the deserters walking immediately back into the room they had just left, deciding not to quit after all. They were gone for probably all of 30 seconds in the continuity of the series, making their departure feel largely meaningless.
