New Overwatch Archives Event Lets You Play A Key Story Moment

Blizzard has unveiled Retribution, a new mission that will be coming to Overwatch as part of the Overwatch Archives event. Like 2017’s Uprising, which allowed players to experience Tracer’s first ever mission as part of Overwatch, Retribution delves into another key moment in the series’ lore.

“Travel eight years into the past and join Blackwatch as they seek to capture a high-ranking member of the Talon organization,” Blizzard explains. “Fight in the streets of Venice as Genji, Moira, McCree, or Reyes (later known as Reaper) to complete the mission and unlock pieces of the past with over 100 items from last year and 60 new ones—including highlight intros, emotes, sprays, and more.”

The trailer, which you can watch above, shows Genji, Moira, McCree, and Reyes infiltrating a building. Naturally, everything goes wrong and before long they’re fighting for their lives in a desperate escape. Of course, the characters are wearing their Blackwatch costumes, which will be available to unlock during the game, along with numerous other cosmetic items.

Last year’s Uprising mode will also be playable during the Overwatch Archives event, and can be played in Story Mode or All Heroes Mode. Story Mode will properly retell Tracer’s first mission in King’s Row, with four heroes available: Tracer, Mercy, Reinhardt, and Torbjorn. All Heroes Mode, meanwhile, lets you play the same King’s Row mission but as any hero you want. As announced previously, the new Uprising event goes live on April 10.

Overwatch was one of the subjects of Versus, a new, fun debate show on GameSpot. In the first episode ,Tamoor Hussain–an Overwatch fan–and Oscar Dayus–who loves Rainbow Six Siege–argue over which game is better, discussing categories such as characters and map design, before having a much lighter quick-fire question round.

Spider-Man PS4 Has No Mictrotransactions And Is Locked At 30 FPS

We finally know that Insomniac’s new Spider-Man game for PlayStation 4 is coming out in September. But that’s not all we learned about the anticipated Sony exclusive today.

Game Informer asked creative director Bryan Intihar 114 rapid-fire questions, and among the things he revealed is that there are no microtransactions and that the game is locked at 30 FPS on PS4 and PS4 Pro. Additionally, he confirmed that Mary Jane is a playable character.

You can watch the full video here at Game Informer, while we’ve rounded up some of the notable takeaways below.

  • The game will look and run a little better on PS4 Pro
  • But it’s locked at 30 FPS on both systems
  • Mary Jane is a playable character, and she will “surprise a lot of people.” At this point in the story, she knows that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
  • The game’s open world is “several times” bigger than that of Insomniac’s last big game, Sunset Overdrive.
  • Will there be microtransactions? “Hell no.”
  • Will we see Uncle Ben’s death? “Hell no.”
  • DLC is planned for after launch.
  • There is a crafting system.
  • You can take selfies with civilians and high-five them.

In other news, Insomniac has announced premium versions of Spider-Man, along with some DLC. The $150 Collector’s Edition comes with a statue, artbook, and in-game content. Check out GameSpot’s further coverage here to see all the available versions.

Frank Miller’s 300 Prequel Delivers More of the Same

This book has been a long time coming. Dark Horse published Frank Miller’s original 300 miniseries way back in 1998. Since then, we’ve seen a film adaptation and a prequel, but only now has Miller finally wrapped work on his own continuation of the 300 saga. The title of this series implies a much larger sense of scope, tracing the downfall of the Persian Empire and the rise of Alexander the Great in the century after the events of 300. Unfortunately, little of that scope is evident in this first issue. Xerxes #1 spins a yarn that will be very familiar to readers of the original series.

When it first first announced nearly a decade ago, Xerxes was expected to serve as the basis for what eventually became 300: Rise of an Empire. That connective tissue is still evident here. Xerxes #1 offers comparatively straightforward account of the Battle of Marathon. We see an invading army of Persians clashing with Athenian general Miltiades and his ragtag army. There’s the familiar narration and emphasis on a heroic few confronting a larger, superior force. It’s all very reminiscent of the original 300 in tone, presentation and the way it romanticizes this particular conflict. And as much as that approach retains a raw, visceral appeal, it’s not exactly enough to justify revisiting this universe after so long.

Next Indiana Jones Movie Is Harrison Ford’s Last One, Spielberg Says

The upcoming fifth Indiana Jones movie will be series star Harrison Ford’s last in the series, director Steven Spielberg says. Speaking to The Sun, Spielberg said he is “pretty sure” that Ford will walk away after the next movie, though he expects the franchise to continue.

“This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure, but it will certainly continue after that,” Spielberg said.

The fifth Indiana Jones movie was announced in 2016, at which time Lucasfilm confirmed that Ford and Spielberg were attached to star and direct, respectively. In September 2017, screenwriter David Koepp talked about how he and Spielberg were “mostly happy” with the current draft, and that the film will follow “some precious artifact that they’re all looking for.” He also confirmed that Indy’s son Mutt, played by Shia LaBeouf in 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, will not return for this latest film.

Back in March 2016, Ford spoke about why he was returning to the role of the iconic archeologist for the fifth time. “The opportunity to work with Steven again on this character which has brought pleasure to so many,” he said. “Not to mention me. It’s great fun to play this character. It’s great fun to work with Steven, I’m looking forward to it.”

Although Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was considered a disappointment by many fans, it still grossed more than $786 million worldwide. Altogether, the series has brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office across all four releases.

Going back to The Sun’s interview, Spielberg added that it is time now for Indiana Jones the character to take “a different form,” and this could be with a woman in the lead role. “We’d have to change the name from Jones to Joan. And there would be nothing wrong with that,” Spielberg said.

The Indiana Jones series premiered with 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark, which was followed up by Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).
