WoW: Battle For Azeroth Collector’s Edition Revealed

World of Warcraft is officially set to expand again later this year with the release of Battle for Azeroth, which is due out in August. Alongside the standard and Digital Deluxe editions we already knew about, Blizzard has now unveiled the details of the inevitable Collector’s edition, which will launch alongside the game.

The centerpiece of this physical edition is a hardcover, double-sided novella. It tells both the Alliance and Horde perspectives leading into Battle for Azeroth; you can read one story by reading the book in one direction, and another by flipping it over and starting on the other side. These stories will also be published online, though they’ll only be available in physical form through the Collector’s edition.

Also included in the Collector’s edition is a digital soundtrack with music from the new expansion and a collectible coin. Additionally, it comes with the same digital bonuses as the Digital Deluxe edition, which provide goodies for Blizzard’s various games. Most notable are the items used in WoW: there’s a mount (Seabraid Stallion for Alliance, Gilded Ravasaur for Horde) and a pet (the adorable Baby Tortollan). There’s also a Hearthstone card back, StarCraft II Horde and Alliance sprays, a Heroes of the Storm “Primal Flamesaber” mount, and various Overwatch items. These include “Horde- and Alliance-themed voice lines for Torbjorn; emotes for Tracer; Anduin, Jaina, Sylvanas, and Saurfang sprays; and Kul Tiran and Zandalari player icons.”

Battle for Azeroth brings the focus of the narrative back to the classic Horde vs. Alliance conflict. It raises the level cap to 120 and adds new playable allied races, new areas to explore, Warfront mode, and much more. When we got a look at it last year, it was looking like the best intro to the MMO so far. We’ll find out for sure this summer.

Check Out World Of Warcraft: Battle For Azeroth Gameplay

Even though World of Warcraft is approaching fourteen years old, Blizzard shows no sign of stopping development on new content. The next expansion, called Battle for Azeroth, releases this summer, and recently Blizzard gave a glimpse of what you can expect from the next chapter of WoW.

With Battle for Azeroth, Blizzard is focusing on making WoW more accessible to new players while also bringing the story back to Warcraft’s roots. You’ll be a witness to and participant in a reignited conflict between the Horde and Alliance, and both factions must mobilize their naval might. Further, Blizzard is introducing numerous new mechanics and modes such as Warfronts, which are 20-player cooperative experiences meant to evoke missions from the RTS Warcraft games.

In the video embedded above, the GameSpot team takes a look at Battle for Azeroth in action. You’ll see some of the new Island Expeditions, which involve three players working together on a rotating set of objectives. The team will compete against another group of three–either AI or real players–from the opposing faction to be the first to complete everything.

Battle for Azeroth launches on August 14 on PC; you can pre-purchase it now for $50 and get immediate access to several quests that unlock four new playable character races. You need WoW and the previous expansion, Legion, to access Battle for Azeroth, but a bundle of all WoW content including BfA costs $90. WoW: Battle For Azeroth Expansion Release Date Announced

A release date for World of Warcraft‘s latest expansion, Battle for Azeroth, had remained something of a mystery since its announcement. We knew it was due out by mid-September, but now Blizzard has finally confirmed an exact date that it arrives on PC: August 14, 2018.

Battle for Azeroth takes a great deal of influence from the early Warcraft games, bringing a renewed emphasis on the Alliance vs. Horde conflict. It takes players to new areas where the two factions will vie to amass naval resources from their respective islands, Zandalar (Horde) and Kul Tiras (Alliance), as they complete new quests and progress through the story.

The expansion also adds 10 dungeons, new Raid zones, and new world quests. There’s also something called called Warfronts, which is a 20-player co-op PvE mode meant to resemble classic RTS games. You’ll try to build up a substantial force and then attack objectives and deal with enemy commanders.

In terms of your character, the level cap increases to 120, and purchasing the expansion will grant you a level 110 boost for use with a new or existing toon. There are also new playable allied races; Alliance gets the Lightforged Draenei and Void Elves, while Horde gets Highmountain Tauren and Nightborne.

Blizzard also confirmed that, alongside the standard and Digital Deluxe editions, it will offer a Collector’s edition for Battle of Azeroth. This will include a hardcover novella, soundtrack, and more.

Firewatch Announced for Nintendo Switch

Update: As it turns out, there are Switch-specific upgrades for this port. In a separate post on the Campo Santo blog, writer/designer Jake Rodkin explains:

“We’ve been hard at work stripping much of Firewatch’s tech down to the studs and rebuilding it to render the world more quickly, to stream and load faster, and to generally be more responsive.”

He adds that those optimisations should hopefully be rolled out to other versions of the game after the Switch release.

“Plus,” Rodkin adds, “we’re hoping to throw in a couple surprises just for the Switch release.”

God Of War PS4 Dev Responds To Criticisms About Changes

The new God of War game is coming to PS4 on April 20. A reboot of sorts for the series, the game takes Kratos (and his son Atreus) to Scandinavia and mixes up the combat with some welcome changes. Sony is also saying the game will show a softer side of Kratos, a man dealing with his violent tendencies while also trying to raise a son. Basically, the game is doing some new things in an attempt to shake things up and reinvigorate the long-running franchise. Not everyone is thrilled with these changes, however.

Game director Cory Barlog told Kotaku that he’s aware of the criticisms and the campaigns some are staging against the game. But he urges that you give the game a fair shot before passing judgment. He added that Sony has intentionally held back showing too much of the game because he wants players to “experience this game as a whole.”

“I know there are a lot of people who are out there saying, ‘It’s totally different. They’re changing a lot of things. Hashtag Not My God Of War. Hashtag Cancel My Pre-Order,'” Barlog said. “But I think a lot of people have to play it.”

He added: “We’ve been very restrictive of the information and what we’re showing visually, and part of that is my paranoia. I want people to experience this game as a whole. Everybody who made this game–or a good portion of this team–has been a part of God of War from the very beginning. Nothing has changed cynically or under pressure or just willy-nilly. All of us put a lot of heart and soul into this game, and the DNA of what this franchise is still pumps through the blood of this game.”

At the end of March, Sony announced that God of War had gone gold, meaning development on the game is finished, and it’s ready to be sent off for manufacturing. It is scheduled to release for PS4 on April 20. It will launch alongside a special edition PS4 Pro bundle that features a God of War-themed console and some digital content. It also gets a performance mode with PS4 Pro even if you don’t have a 4K display.
