Update 9/18: Sam Esmail has spoken up about his now-confirmed Battlestar Galactica show, and revealed that it is not a remake of the 2004 Ron Moore-led series, but instead a new story within the mythology.
“BSG fans, this will NOT be a remake of the amazing series
launched because… why mess with perfection?” he said on Twitter. “Instead, we’ll explore a new story within the mythology while staying true to the spirit of Battlestar. So say we all!”
The wording of the tweet suggests that Esmail’s show will explore different aspects of Battlestar Galactica’s established mythos, perhaps akin to how Caprica was set within the same universe but explored the origins of the Cylons. With NBC’s Peacock streaming service launching early next year, hopefully it won’t be long until we find out more story details.
