Here’s Why Pokemon Ultra Sun And Moon Aren’t Coming To Nintendo Switch

When Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon were announced in June, some people were surprised that the pair of games were coming to 3DS and not Nintendo’s newer Switch console. Now, Game Freak–developer of the mainline Pokemon series–has explained why it decided against bringing the games to Switch.

“We’ve been working with the 3DS hardware since Pokemon X and Y,” Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon producer Shigeru Ohmori told GameSpot. “Even then we wanted to get the maximum power and maximum potential out of the 3DS, and ever since then we’ve continued to try [to do] that. With X and Y we thought we’d got as much as we could out, but then Sun and Moon came along and we pushed even harder and got as much as we could out of the system at that time. And now, again, with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, we’ve tried to make this the pinnacle of our work with the 3DS system and make it a culmination of all our efforts to get the absolute most out of the system that we can.”

One of the reasons people were surprised at the lack of a Switch version was because a third version of Pokemon Sun and Moon–unofficially dubbed Pokemon Stars–was heavily rumored to be in development for the hybrid console. That game may have subsequently become Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and when pressed on whether those games could come to Switch later down the line, Ohmori stated simply that “there are [currently] no plans for that in particular.”

Nintendo Switch does have a Pokemon game in development, of course. Game Freak is working on a “core RPG” Pokemon title for the console, though we know next to nothing about what game that might be. Elsewhere in our interview, Game Freak explained why Pokemon for Switch is helped by Ultra Sun and Moon, and stated which of the two you should buy. Look out for more from the interview soon.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon launch for 3DS on November 17, featuring an “alternate” story and some new Pokemon. If you’re still playing the base games, check out all the free Pokemon and items you can get in Pokemon Sun and Moon right now.

See Every South Park: Fractured But Whole Ultimate Power Here

South Park: The Fractured But Whole is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. One element of the game’s turn-based combat are Ultimate powers, which are devastating moves that deal a huge amount of damage. You strategically use them in battle to get the upper hand when you need it the most.

There are 10 classes in The Fractured But Whole and each has an Ultimate ability. You can watch our new video above to see all of them in action. This being a South Park game, some are extremely over-the-top and silly. For example, Fastpass zips around the world at lightning speed before crushing his enemy, while Stan’s involves a guinea pig. Kick back and watch the video above to see all of them. Get ready to laugh.

Like its predecessor, The Stick of Truth, Fractured but Whole puts players in the role of the New Kid, who moves into South Park and joins a superhero team with Cartman and other South Park mainstays.

GameSpot’s Fractured But Whole review scored the game an 8/10. Reviewer Miguel Concepcion said, “It’s an accomplishment that this game will wholly entertain devoted fans while delivering a heap of jokes that won’t fly over the heads of casual viewers.”

GameSpot News with Jess McDonell and Dan Crowd—well, just Dan Crowd today I guess—brings you the video game news that matters. At least, for the previous 24 hour period. What happened today?

Dragon Ball FighterZ Adds Two More Characters To The Roster

Dragon Ball FighterZ continues to bring all your favourite Dragon Ball Z characters, along with some of the ones you hate, to its flashy, 2D fighting circus act. Two more characters were announced today, could they be your favourites? (It’s unlikely). More importantly, a Japanese release date was also announced, meaning the Western one won’t be far behind it.

Xbox One X Patches For Halo: MCC And Halo Wars 2 Confirmed

The Halos you love are about to get better. Well, marginally. A couple of Xbox One X patches were confirmed for the Master Chief Collection and Halo Wars 2, with an aim to bring significant visual upgrades to the game. But that’s not all! 343 talked about some of their plans to modernised a bunch of Halo’s systems in the future. Halo will NEVER DIE.

Ridiculous PS4 Gran Turismo Sport Bundle Comes With An Actual Car

Alright, well this is silly. Everyone knows that collectors editions of games can get a little out of hand with outrageous statutes and replica items, but Gran Turismo took things way too far. As what we can only assume was a huge publicity stunt, Sony were offering a bundle that featured an actual, real-life car.

And that’s it for today’s news! As Dan said in the video, Thursday and Friday’s news will be handled by some very special guests, so be sure to give them a warm welcome and we’ll see you on Monday!
