Marvel Digital Originals Kicks Off With New Jessica Jones Series

Marvel Comics are kicking off a new digital comics line called Marvel Digital Originals that will feature characters that are currently making a splash on television.

“There’s a huge audience out there — not just on the Netflix front but on ABC, Freeform, Hulu, etc. — that experience these characters digitally,” Marvel editor Nick Lowe told IGN over email. “In fact, it was hard not to notice when characters like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist were some of our biggest sellers in the digital marketplace. That was the inspiration for the Kaare Andrews/Afu Chan’s Iron Fists digital strategy and this next big step for us.”

The first new title to debut under the MDO label is Jessica Jones by writer Kelly Thompson (Hawkeye) and artist Mattia de Lulis (Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor), available for purchase online today. “Kelly was actually suggested by Brian Michael Bendis, co-creator of Jessica, when he was wrapping the previous volume because he was impressed by her depiction of Jessica in Hawkeye. And Mattia de Iulis had the slick neo-noir vibe the team was looking for,” Lowe said.

The Equalizer 2 Review

Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer (released in 2014 and based on a mid-1980s TV series), remains, perhaps, the best Punisher feature film we’ll ever see. Robert McCall, as played by Denzel Washington, is a righteous vigilante with an implacable sense of righteousness, and no small amount talent when it comes to violent killing. McCall quietly works blue collar jobs, eats in modest local diners, and who is slowly working his way through the 100 best books in the Western Canon at the behest of a fallen wife. He even has a gimmick. When McCall charges into a room to do damage to a large number of Russian pimps and scumbags, he times himself via stopwatch as if he’s trying to beat his own record. Robert McCall is essentially a comic book superhero. It’s easy to see, then, why Washington and Fuqua would want to make The Equalizer 2, the first time either of them has made a sequel or reprised a character. Robert McCall must be a fun character to play and offers both the director and the actor a chance to present a heroic vigilante with both thrilling violence as well as actual moral indignation.

Destiny 2: Cayde-6 Actor Replaced For Next Expansion

One of the funniest, most lighthearted characters in the Destiny universe, Cayde-6, has been up until this point voiced by veteran TV and video game actor Nathan Fillion. But he isn’t coming back to voice Cayde-6 in Destiny 2: Forsaken, which could be the character’s final appearance in the Destiny series.

Fillion told Kotaku (via IGN) that he was not available to voice Cayde-6 in Destiny 2: Forsaken, presumably due to scheduling conflicts (he is a busy person). He also confirmed that he did not voice Cayde-6 in Forsaken’s E3 trailer.

Nolan North, who voices Nathan Drake in the Uncharted series among so many other roles, stepped in for Fillion to voice Cayde-6 in Forsaken. This is not the first time North has come in to voice a Destiny character after the original actor stepped aside. North was hired by Bungie to voice Ghost after Peter Dinklage bowed out, also reportedly due to scheduling conflicts.

Bungie told GamesRadar that Cayde-6 is absolutely, 100 percent dead in the events of Forsaken, so this means Fillion missed out on playing the character for his final appearance.

Maybe.

“How do I feel about Cayde-6? I absolutely love him. How do I feel about that character dying? I don’t personally believe it, because he’s a Guardian,” Fillion said. “He should be able to come back. I mean that’s their whole thing, is that they come back right? The whole thing is the resurrection.”

While Fillion is apparently done with Destiny, he’s still working on video game-related projects. He plays Nathan Drake in a wonderful Uncharted film that you can watch right here.

Destiny 2: Forsaken kicks off with the death of Cayde-6, leading the Guardians back to the Reef to fend off the latest threat. The DLC will also introduce a new Gambit mode, a hybrid of PvP and PvE. The expansion will launch September 4, and Bungie has a bevy of purchase options with different bonuses and gear. Check out our pre-order guide for more information.

Watch MLB Players Do Fortnite Dances

First it was the World Cup, and now Fortnite has made an appearance at another high-profile sporting event. As part of the MLB All-Star game this week, Fox Sports got MLB All-Stars who play Fortnite to act out some of their favourite dances from the game.

Among the athletes shown in the video are George Springer of the Houston Astros, JD Martinez of the Boston Red Sox, and Jeremy Jeffress of the Milwaukee Brewers. Watch as they each act out dance emotes from Fortnite; it’s pretty great, though we do wonder how much further the Fortnite phenomenon in traditional sports and media can go before it’s just too much.

MLB players have been celebrating their on-field accomplishments in Fortnite style for a long time now, but the All-Star game is a higher-profile event which makes it more noteworthy. In May, Red Sox pitcher David Price caught some flak after some claimed his time spent playing Fortnite might have contributed to an injury that resulted in at least one missed start.

The Red Sox as a team are reportedly very into Fortnite. They play so much that they have to remind themselves to eat. They have the best record in all of baseball right now, so….

And in other Fortnite sports news, during the World Cup Final this week, French striker Antoine Griezmann performed the brutal, humiliating “L Dance” after scoring on a penalty.

As for Fortnite the game, Season 5 began last week–and it’s a big deal. The update changed the map significantly–among other things, it added a new area–while the storm circle now operates differently. There is also a new Battle Pass you can buy with cosmetic items and other nice benefits. Check out GameSpot’s Season 5 coverage here to learn more about what’s new.

New PUBG Xbox One Update Out Now; Here Are The Patch Notes

The PUBG test server (PTS) was recently opened for players to try new game updates and patches for the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The server closed on July 16, and all the updates are now live in the main game.

The new update patches pretty much every weapon in PUBG, and also adds a new firearm and vehicle. The UI has been given a noticeable improvement, the OC and AS servers have been merged into one Australian server, and the leaderboards have been completely reset. Player movement in regards to sprinting, shooting, and swimming have also all been tweaked. How sound works has been updated so players can more easily discern from which direction gunshots are coming from as well.

No Caption Provided

Perhaps the easiest change to notice is the new flight path that appears on the map prior to the start of a match. This will help players decide on a spot to parachute to before even getting on the plane, and more easily coordinate with teammates.

After being defeated, Xbox One players can also now spectate their opponents. When killed, you can watch the actions of the closest player to where you died. When that player is killed, you can spectate the closest player to them and continue hopping from one player to the next until the end of the game. If playing in a team, you won’t be able to spectate until all of your teammates are wiped out.

The most notable updates are listed in more specific detail in the patch notes below, but you can find the full list on the official PUBG forums.

PUBG Xbox One Patch Notes

  • Pistols
    • Increased the damage of the P92, P1911, P18C, R1895, and R45
  • Shotguns
    • Increased overall damage and effective range
    • Shotgun chokes and duckbills are now less effective at decreasing spread (so the effective spread for a shotgun with a choke or duckbill will be similar to before)
    • Increased limb shots modifier (shooting limbs now does more damage)
    • Slightly decreased the damage of the S686 and S1897
    • Reduced pellet spread
    • Shotgun chokes can now be attached to the sawed-off

    • Decreased vertical recoil on all SMGs
    • Decreased recoil and scope sway when moving in ADS (aiming down sights)
    • Increased ADS transition speed
    • To make the Vector a little easier to find, we’ve increased its spawn rate at the expense of the spawn rate of the UMP-9 (overall SMG spawn rate remains the same).
  • ARs
    • Rebalanced ARs so none is the “objective” best—the power differential between each is now reduced, but each brings advantages to different situations.
    • Slightly decreased the damage of the M16A4, SCAR-L, AUG, and M416
    • Increased reload time by 30% for the SCAR-L, M16A4, and M416
    • Increased reload time by 10% for the AKM
    • Increased vertical and horizontal recoil for all ARs except the AKM
    • Decreased recoil recovery rate for all ARs

    • Restricted big scopes (8x and 15x) for use with LMGs (DP28, M249)
    • Reduced crossbow reloading time from 4 seconds to 3.5 seconds

Other Item Balance

  • Level three helmets now only spawn in care packages (and one is guaranteed to be in every care package)
  • Reduced the spawn rate for AR extended quickdraw magazines
  • Adrenaline syringes now spawn (rarely) alongside normal loot in the game world
  • Adjusted the casting time of Adrenaline syringe from eight seconds to six seconds
  • The tactical stock and cheek pad are now less effective at improving recoil recovery rate. It now improves ADS speed.

New Weapon and Vehicle

  • The Mirado is a classic muscle car: a fast, four-seat sedan that’s limited to Miramar. It can be found around downtown areas and main city streets.
  • The SLR spawns alongside normal world loot. It’s a DMR which uses 7.62mm ammo and contains 10 bullets per magazine (20 bullets when extended.). The SLR is more powerful than the SKS but has more recoil. Recoil control is the key to using the SLR effectively.

Character Movement

  • Slightly decreased movement speed when holding SRs, LMGs (M249, DP28) and shotguns. Your equipped weapon affects both your sprinting speed and your running (normal movement) speed.
  • Removed the first shot delay when your character is not sprinting
  • Chambering a new round in certain weapons (M24, Kar98k, S1897, etc.) no longer limits you to walking speed while aiming down sights

Pokemon Go Fest 2018 Proves Pokemon Go Is Alive and Well

2018 has been a good year for Pokemon Go so far.

While the overall player base is down compared to its massive launch, Niantic’s AR hit is still thriving two years later, with an estimated $1.8 billion in revenue and $70 million last month alone according to analysts.

This weekend, Niantic held its second annual Pokemon Go Fest in Chicago, overcoming last year’s connectivity issues and instead highlighting the game’s biggest strength: its community. With new features coming every few months and near-weekly in-game events, Pokemon Go has hit its stride in the wake of its second birthday, and it isn’t slowing down any time soon.
