Early in development, Sunset Overdrive actually had a lot in common with the then-unreleased, now-immensely-popular multiplayer game Fortnite.

IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey sat down with Insomniac CEO Ted Price for this month’s episode of IGN Unfiltered (see below) and talked about the origins of the popular Xbox One exclusive.

“Our first prototypes were, actually, you building a fort with friends, fighting off hordes of

” Price said, “So, very similar to a very popular game today, which we all sort of chuckle about, but the game did morph along the way to something that was more of a story-driven, open world game.”

There are still vestiges of that early iteration of the game, which players can experience in Sunset Overdrive’s base defense encounters. Price went on to explain other early ideas, which included experiments with cover-based combat and more, and how the team stumbled upon the magic combination which makes Sunset Overdrive so unique.

For a brief time earlier this week, it looked like one of Xbox One’s biggest exclusives might no longer be quite so exclusive, but Microsoft has since shut down rumors that Halo 5: Guardians is on its way to PC.

“As we’ve shared previously, we do not have plans to launch Halo 5: Guardians on Windows 10 PC,” a Microsoft representative told CNET.

Rumors to the contrary emerged Sunday, when a subtle change to Halo 5’s Amazon box art was noticed. Instead of reading that it was an “Xbox One Exclusive,” the box art was changed to read that Halo 5 was just an “Xbox One Console Exclusive.” The change to the latter wording is in line with how Microsoft typically describes games released on both Xbox One and PC, but that’s apparently not the case with Halo 5.

Henry Cavill was first announced in the role of Superman back in 2011, and to date he has appeared in three DC movies–Man of Steel, Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League. However, it has now been reported that he is set to leave the DC Universe and will not play the character again.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC was looking to include a Superman cameo in next year’s Shazam. However, negotiations with Cavill broke down, and with the studio increasingly moving away from the current version of their superhero universe, the actor is unlikely to reprise the role.

THR’s sources state that negotiations failed due to scheduling issues, potentially with the Netflix adaptation of The Witcher that Cavill was recently cast in. However, there is also a suggestion that he took the Witcher job after failing to reach an agreement with DC. The site also states that there is a Supergirl movie in the works, which will be an origin story featuring a “teen superheroine,” a storyline that is unlikely to have a place for an adult Superman.

In any case, it seems that the DC Universe is undergoing yet another shake-up. While Shazam, the upcoming Aquaman, and next year’s Wonder Woman 1984 are technically part of the existing universe, the Joker origin movie that is about to start production is not. In addition, Ben Affleck is not expected to play Batman again, and the standalone Batman movie that is currently in development is likely to star another actor as the Caped Crusader.

Cavill’s involvement with The Witcher TV show was confirmed last week, after the actor hinted about it last month. He will play Geralt in the Netflix show, which is expected to premiere in 2020. The eight-part show will be based on the fantasy novel series written by Andrzej Sapkowski, on which the games are also based.

Starz’s American Gods has lost yet another showrunner as Jesse Alexander has been “sidelined” due to issues occurring behind the scenes.

As reported by THR, Alexander, who replaced original showrunners Michael Green and Bryan Fuller, was “fired but not fired,” and is “no longer working on the hyper-stylized drama as a writer or showrunner, and has been asked not to sit in on editing, be involved on set or participate in any other areas of production or postproduction.”

Apple’s much-anticipated iPhone event is happening today, September 12, and based on the (rather convincing) rumors out there, it could be one of the biggest launches for the company’s mobile offerings yet. Top of mind is, of course, the successor to the iPhone X, reportedly called the iPhone XS. The rumors indicate there will be at least two versions: the iPhone XS, which will be 6.1 inches and will be the more affordable model, and the iPhone XS Max, which will be a whopping 6.5 inches (the biggest iPhone yet). [Update: Apple has leaked the names of its new iPhone products, ahead of the event.]

GameSpot’s sister website, CNET, will have full coverage of the event, featuring several longtime Apple watchers and coming to you live from the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. The pre-show begins at 9AM PT / 12PM ET / 5PM BST, with the main event kicking off at 10AM PT / 1PM ET / 6PM BST. Nothing has been confirmed by Apple, but 9to5Mac has shared tons of details about the new iPhones, including a new second-gen 5.8-inch model and rumors of an updated Face ID and improved rear camera. We may also learn about a new generation of Apple Watches, iPad Pros, and possibly get a first look at the successor to the Macbook Air. Here’s what Apple is rumored to be announcing:

• Three new iPhones
• A totally new and redesigned Apple Watch Series 4
• Release date and pricing for the AirPower charging pad
• Updated AirPod headphones

We could also see the below products announced on September 12, but they could easily make an appearance in October or even later:

• Redesigned iPad Pros with Face ID
• A new MacBook Air successor
