Lucius Malfoy Actor Says He Originally Wanted Another Part

Actor Jason Isaacs has spoken up to share an interesting story about his role in the Harry Potter film franchise. While we now know him for his portrayal of Voldemort servant Lucius Malfoy, he said in a new interview that he actually wanted to play the role of the bumbling and cocky Gilderoy Lockhart. Isaacs told Digital Spy that he was “mightily pissed off” when the Harry Potter casting directors told him that he would be reading for the elder Malfoy. He decided he wouldn’t take the part, informing his agent to shut it down. His reason? He was already playing Captain Hook in 2003’s Peter Pan, and he didn’t want to play another villain in a children’s story right away.

“I said to my agent, ‘When they call, tell them no, thank you very much, I am about to go play Captain Hook,'” Isaacs said, via Kotaku. He said, ‘Just think about it over the weekend’. I said, ‘No, I don’t want to think about it–it’s fun and lovely and flattering but I am not playing two children’s villains!'” Isaacs said.

But things changed for Isaacs over that fateful weekend. He was flooded with phone calls from his family, urging him to take the part of Lucius Malfoy–for their own selfish-sounding, but well-meaning reasons.

“Over the weekend, everybody I knew called me–nieces, nephews, godchildren, and then the parents,” Isaacs said. “They all tried to persuade me to take the job–not because they cared about me but because they wanted to visit the set! So I took the job and thank god I did!”

Malfoy was a Death Eater. Though he defected and survived the events of the story, he’s looking pretty worse for wear by the end. As for the Lockhart, the role eventually went to Kenneth Branagh, and he was pretty great in the part.

Although the mainline Harry Potter novel and film series is over, the spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them debuted in 2016 with the first of the four sequels coming in 2018. Johnny Depp will play Gellert Grindelwald in the first sequel, while Jude Law will play Albus Dumbledore.

ELEX Review

If you’ve ever been on a date with someone who seems very interesting and pleasant, but suddenly goes on tirades about lizard people or how the Illuminati faked the moon landing, you have some understanding of my love-hate relationship with ELEX. It’s a sprawling, ambitious, Euro-style RPG in the tradition of series like The Witcher and Gothic, and there’s plenty to admire peppered across its more than 50 hours of adventuring. But while it spends about half its time making me want to sing its praises, it spends the other half making me want to pull every single hair out of my scalp.

The seamless open world is built on a strong foundation of detailed lore that feels unlike anything the genre has thrown at us before. There are dazzling sci-fi elements like super soldiers and radioactive mutants, but also a clan of woodsy wizards who shun all technology. There are exciting influences from Fallout and Mad Max, with sand-blown, post-apocalyptic ruins and gangs of mercenaries in biker leathers, but also a medieval-ish religious order that worships the god of machines. Somehow, it all fits together in a way that feels interconnected and believable. The sheer uniqueness always left me wanting to dig deeper and learn more.

Destiny 2 PC Raid Unlocks A Week After Launch, Hard Mode Coming Later

Following Destiny 2‘s launch on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in September, Bungie’s shooter comes to PC just a few days from now, on October 24. Now, Bungie has announced what players can expect in terms of activities in the first three weeks.

At launch on October 24, players can play the full campaign and Crucible multiplayer mode, while the Nightfall Strike’s normal and Prestige modes will be available, too. Additionally, the Guided games system will be live right away. Destiny 2’s Leviathan raid will be available a week later, starting on November 1, but at this time only normal difficulty will be available. Then on November 3, Trials of the Nine kicks off.

In Week 3, Destiny 2 players can try their hand at the ultra-challenging Prestige mode for the Leviathan raid beginning on November 7. The Guded Games feature will be available on this date as well, so players looking to group up will be able to do so.

If it works the same way as the console version, you’ll want to be Power level 260 to play the Leviathan raid, so the fact that it comes out a week after launch should give you some time to get ready for the challenge.

Destiny 2’s PC version unlocks at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on October 24. Check out this graphic to find out when the game unlocks exactly where you live.

The PC version is available to pre-load now on PC if you pre-ordered. The game is only available through Blizzard’s Battle.net platform. It’s notable because it’s the first non-Blizzard game to be sold through Battle.net.

Destiny 2 Raid Adding Extra Challenges Soon

The ultra-difficult Prestige mode for Destiny 2‘s Leviathan raid became available this week. Given the passion from Destiny 2’s player community, it’s no surprise that it was beaten promptly. Players looking for a new challenge are in luck, as Bungie today announced that different Leviathan encounters will have new, optional challenges unlocked every week. This starts on October 31 and will continue in the future.

Bungie is keeping the specifics about the challenges a secret for now, opting to let players find out for themselves. “We won’t be giving you any hints on how to complete these challenges, but we will let you know when you fail with an in-game message. Your Director will tell you what is at stake each week,” Bungie said.

Players who complete the new Leviathan challenges will receive a special emblem for each challenge that they complete. Players are also guaranteed a raid drop for every successful challenge completion. “You have some time to start thinking about what extra challenges lie ahead. Let the speculating begin!” Bungie said.

It was recently discovered that one of the first teams to beat Destiny 2’s Leviathan raid on Prestige difficulty, Clan Redeem, apparently used a glitch to do so. Some fans feel Redeem’s “world first” status should be disqualified in light of the exploit. Bungie’s blog post today names Redeem as one of the three Destiny 2 teams to clear the raid first on Prestige difficulty, alongside Clans Hand of Faith/PRORAIDER/Add Control/ZFORCE NATION and Clan ihavealife.

The Prestige Raid was supposed to arrive last week alongside the now-concluded Iron Banner. However, Bungie discovered an exploit that negated the Raid’s difficulty. As a result, the Prestige Raid was delayed to work on a fix. That still isn’t ready, but rather than delay it further, Bungie will monitor the Raid to detect teams that make use of the exploit. Meanwhile, the latest Nightfall Strike has been replaced due to a bug.
