Star Wars Han Solo Spin-Off Image Teases New Vehicle

The Last Jedi has only been in theaters a couple of weeks, but another Star Wars movie is also due soon. Solo: A Star Wars Story is the second Star Wars spin-off, following 2016’s Rogue One, and it arrives in May. The film is set to focus on the adventures of young Han Solo, and although we are yet to see any footage, director Ron Howard has released an intriguing new image.

The picture was tweeted by Howard as a New Year greeting. As with most of images that the director has released it doesn’t reveal much, but it does suggest that Han might pilot a new vehicle–possibly some form of speeder. Check it out below:

Solo: A Star Wars Story stars Alden Ehrenreich as Han and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, with Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke also star. It hits theaters on May 25, 2018.

Solo was originally being directed by Chris Lord and Phil Miller, who also helmed The Lego Movie and the Jump Street films, but they were replaced by Howard in June. There were rumors that they were fired due to clashes with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy and co-writer and Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan.

Although Howard joined the production only a few weeks before the end of the principle photography, reshoots continued for several months. In November it was rumored that he had reshot up to 80% of the film. The scale of the reshoots meant that at least one role had to be recast, with Paul Bettany replacing Michael K. Williams. A recent comment from Bettany confirmed that they were indeed more extensive than initially expected.

The subject of the third Star Wars spin-off has not yet been officially announced yet, but it is thought that it will focus on Obi-Wan Kenobi. Last month it was reported that the Obi-Wan film will start shooting in 2019, with Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry helming. It’s not known if Ewan McGregor, who played Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequels, has been in discussion with Lucasfilm to reprise the role, but he has previously expressed an interest in doing so.

The Last Guardian Developer Possibly Teasing New Game

An image posted on the website for Fumito Ueda’s genDESIGN has sparked speculation that it’s a teaser for a new game from the creator of ICO, Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian.

Posted to celebrate the New Year, the image (below) shows a girl on a stone altar, staring at a mostly-obscured giant figure. Neither figure looks immediately reminiscent from Ueda’s past games, leading some to believe that this is his studio’s next game.
