How Lessons From the Wii U Affected the Nintendo Switch
Nintendo has discussed lessons learned from the Wii U and how these lessons were applied in order to make the Nintendo Switch as successful as it has been since its launch.
Nintendo of America senior product marketing manager Bill Trinen told Business Insider the ease of simply jumping into the Switch experience has been a huge step up from the Wii U.
“If you look at the Wii U hardware system, just the system menu itself — the time that it took to boot that system up, to get into gameplay — was something that was a frustration for a lot of players early on, and actually became a hindrance,” Trinen said.

Madden 18 Patch Out Now, Here’s What It Does
The second major title update for Madden NFL 18 has arrived, making some big changes and adding new features. Starting with the new features, the single-player Longshot mode adds a feature that lets you replay gameplay moments to see them again. Additionally, you can now play full seasons with Madden Ultimate Team squads.
Another new feature is a monthly leaderboard for Madden Ultimate Team, so you can see how you compare to others on a monthly timeline.
As for gameplay changes, there are many. This update allows the quarterback to dive while scrambling, something that apparently wasn’t possible before. The patch also addresses the much-talked about Gun Monster formation; specifically, this patch fixes the issue that could lead to pancake blocks by the O line in this formation. Additionally, the update fixes “exploit blitzes” for QB Contain players. What’s more, the patch clears out a problem where the ref would spot the ball incorrectly after a flubbed punt.
The new Madden 18 patch also addresses “visual inaccuracies” with a number of players, including David Harris of the New England Patriots and free agent Colin Kaepernick. You can see the full patch notes below, as posted on EA’s website.

New Destiny 2 PvP Map Announced, See It Here Right Now
A new Destiny 2 PvP map is being added tomorrow, Bungie has announced. The new map “Distant Shore” will be added tomorrow, October 10, timed with the start of Destiny 2’s first Iron Banner, though it apparently won’t be playable in all playlists until a week later.
Distant Shores will start to show up for everyone when Iron Banner ends, Bungie said. Iron Banner runs October 10-17, so players can expect to start seeing Distant Shore in the general multiplayer hopper on or around October 17, it seems.

Many are pointing out that Distant Shores looks like the Destiny 1 map Shores of Time. That was a pretty good map, so if this is indeed some kind of remake, we won’t complain. It is not uncommon for games–from Bungie and other developers–to update popular maps from older games for their sequels. Just last week, Activision announced that Call of Duty: WWII is adding a classic map from the first Call of Duty, updated with new graphics and more.
In other Destiny 2 news, Bungie has announced that the Prestige difficulty for the Leviathan raid has been delayed after the studio discovered a serious bug. Check out GameSpot’s further coverage here to learn more about the delay.

Fast And Furious Spinoff Eyeing Iron Man 3 Director
Dwayne Johnson is clearly a man who hates having free time and vacations, as is evidenced by his adding yet another movie to his upcoming slate–in this instance the announced Fast & Furious spinoff he will star in with Jason Statham. That said, while the movie won’t debut in theaters until the summer of 2019, there’s plenty to get excited about now.
Variety reports that while no meetings have taken place, the list of directors being considered to helm the movie includes none other than Shane Black. A veteran of action movies in his own right, Black is the writer and director behind titles like Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys and the upcoming The Predator, a sequel to 2010’s Predators due in 2018. Even more impressive, he’s also written The Monster Squad, Lethal Weapon, Lethal Weapon 2 and The Hunt for Red October, among a long list of other movies.
Given his film pedigree, the director would likely be a natural fit in the Fast & Furious universe, should he be chosen. The project would also present a new opportunity for Black, as he’s never directed a film he didn’t write. The script for the untitled spinoff is being written by Chris Morgan, who has also penned the last six Fast & Furious installments.
While a director has yet to sign on for the project, Johnson is having a hard time containing his excitement. In an Instagram post, the former wrestler writes, “Thank you UNIVERSAL STUDIOS for being tremendous partners who see the big picture and for coming to us years ago with this spinoff idea. Huge shout to my brother, Jason Statham for the trust and wanting to create and deliver something fresh and bad a** for the fans.”
Not everyone in the Fast family is excited about the movie, though. In particular, co-star Tyrese Gibson has been an outspoken critic of the spinoff and how it seemingly pushed back the next Fast & Furious installment by a year, ranting about it on Instagram.
“Congratulations to @hhgarcia41 and @therock you guys are just amazing you really broke up the #FastFamily I tried to warn you guys,” he writes. “I got 3 years of venting on this clown – They offered but YOU didn’t have to agree with a solo #HobbsMovie.”
While Johnson hasn’t responded to his Fast co-star’s comments, Vin Diesel did with an Instagram post of his own. Diesel, the top-billed star and producer of the films, wrote that the move isn’t necessarily any one person’s fault. Instead, he writes, “Like any vehicle that has run around the globe 8 times, the franchise is in need of maintenance. My good friend and the godfather of Universal, Ron Meyer has granted me the time to do just that.”
The ninth Fast & Furious movie will arrive on April 10, 2020–nearly a year after the spinoff starring Johnson and Statham premieres on July 26, 2019.
