The Red Sox Play A Lot Of Fortnite, Have To Remind Themselves To Eat

Like pretty much everyone else on the planet right now, members of Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox play a lot of Fortnite. A new piece from Jen McCaffrey at The Athletic shines a light on just how popular the game is among the team.

Red Sox pitcher David Price gave an example of how committed the team is to Fortnite. “Let’s say we get back at 11 PM from a game, we’ll play until 1 AM, 1:30 AM, 2 AM depending on what time our game is the next day,” Price, who signed a seven-year, $217 million contract with the Sox in 2015, said in the piece (which is behind a paywall), according to NESN.

Price added that he and other teammates are so wrapped up in Fortnite that they have to remind themselves to eat. “We have to make sure, ‘All right we’ve got to eat. Let’s take 30 minutes, eat some lunch, and see you back in 30.’ But you can lose track of time whenever you’re playing it.”

According to McCaffrey, a good number of Red Sox players enjoy Fortnite. In addition to Price, Heath Hembree, Craig Kimbrel, Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, Xander Bogaerts, Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly, J.D. Martinez, and Carson Smith all play the unthinkably popular battle royale game.

According to Hembree, Carson Smith is the strongest Fortnite player. The teammates often play Squads, and Smith leads the way. “We play teams of four so we just try to make sure Carson’s on our team and we just follow his lead and he’ll win us battles,” Hembree explained. “Carson kind of takes over every game.”

Another interesting element to this story is that Price, one of the Red Sox’s best pitchers, missed his start against the New York Yankees this week due to minor carpal tunnel syndrome. Some are suggesting his gaming might be to blame, but Red Sox manager Alex Cora doesn’t think so.

If the Red Sox were struggling, stories about their gaming habits might not go over so well. But the team has a record of 25-10, which is good for a share of the best record in baseball as of May 9.

In other Fortnite news, Avengers: Infinity War bad guy Thanos is now in the game as part of a limited-time mode. For more, check out GameSpot’s video above that shows off how and where to get Thanos’ super-powerful gauntlet.

Nintendo Switch Getting Adjustable Charging Stand For Longer Tabletop Sessions

Nintendo has announced a new Nintendo Switch peripheral. An adjustable charging stand for the hybrid console is coming in July for $20 ($30 AUD), the company announced today. Why would you want one? Nintendo says it will help you “enjoy longer play sessions in tabletop mode.

The Switch’s charging port is on the bottom of the system, and that makes it difficult to charge while playing in tabletop mode with the kickstand. With the adjustable charging stand you can play while charging so you can stay in the action longer if you want. Additionally, you can adjust the angle of the stand to one that suits your preferred viewing angle. Here’s what it looks like:

This announcement comes just ahead of E3 2018, where Nintendo plans to show off lots more of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Switch. Whereas last year Nintendo focused heavily on Super Mario Odyssey, this year the spotlight is understandably going to Smash. The game launches later this year, and it’s expected to help Switch sales improve further still.

The Switch has sold 17.79 million units by Nintendo’s latest count. Nintendo plans to sell 20 million more during this fiscal year.

Do you think you’ll pick up the new adjustable charging stand? What other accessories for the system would you like to see? Let us know in the comments below!

Google Chrome Update Breaks Audio in Hundreds of Web-Based Games

Google Chrome’s latest update had good intentions, but it’s also had the unfortunate side-effect of removing audio from web-based games.

The update – outlined here – stops videos from autoplaying with sound. This is great for annoying autoplaying ads, but as Kotaku picked up, it’s broken a bunch of web-based games by silencing their audio.

Creator of Getting Over It Bennett Foddy tweeted that the update is “a disaster for games and audio art on the web”, while Stephen’s Sausage Roll’s Stephen Lavelle said that the update ” broke all of the audio in my html5 games as well.”

Marvel’s Deadpool Finale Balances Comedy and Tragedy

Gerry Duggan’s long Deadpool run has tended to work best when the humor takes a back seat to pathos and tragedy. Duggan knows how to put Wade Wilson through the wringer. It’s fitting that his run comes to a close in an oversized issue that emphasizes both comedy and tragedy in equal measure. It’s a suitably downbeat end to an influential series.

Duggan and his artists work the humor out of their systems in the first half of this issue, which basically involves the Avengers struggling and failing to take down the fugitive Deadpool after Wade has gained the ability to make anyone around him vomit uncontrollably. This is a real “your mileage may vary” sequence. If gross-out gags are your jam – especially gags that go on long enough that they stop being amusing and then circle right around to being funny again – then these pages won’t disappoint. Everyone else may find it a tough slog. It is pretty entertaining to see just how many different ways there are for superheroes to shower innocent bystanders in puke.

Infinity War Originally Featured This Long-Awaited Reunion

The initial draft for Avengers: Infinity War included a long-awaited reunion between two characters, but the scene ultimately didn’t make it into the final script.

Warning: Avengers: Infinity War spoilers follow.

Screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely originally wanted to include a scene where Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) are reunited and confront the lingering discord between the two of them from Civil War. “Our first sort of wonky draft

the idea that they had to get back in the same room together and deal with that,” McFeely told Yahoo Entertainment.
