Netflix Got More Emmy Nominations Than HBO, But Does It Matter?

Netflix’s quest for TV domination just got another boost – the streaming service just ended HBO’s 17-year streak as the most nominated network at the Emmy Awards, racking up a total of 112 nominations heading into the 2018 ceremony, versus HBO’s (still impressive) 108 nods. Check out the full list of 2018 Emmy nominations here.

But HBO’s shows still lead the pack in terms of the most-nominated series: Game of Thrones made a triumphant return to the ballot after being unable to compete in last year’s Emmy race because it aired outside the eligibility window (June 1, 2016 – May 31, 2017); this year, it racked up the most nominations of any series with 22 in total, including Best Drama, as well as supporting actor and actress nods for all three Lannisters, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. (HBO also holds the record for network with the most nominations in a single year – it scored 126 in 2015.)

Mission: Impossible – Fallout Review

The lasting appeal of the Mission: Impossible film franchise has been to watch Tom Cruise perform increasingly dangerous (and over-the-top) stunts in cool locations around the world. And seeing Cruise’s IMF agent Ethan Hunt run, fight, jump, shoot, drive, run, fly, crash, climb, and — did we mention run? — his way through life-or-death situations is, fittingly, also the most memorable aspect of this latest installment, Mission: Impossible – Fallout. While the Mission: Impossible films remain a winning formula overall, Fallout also shows the franchise straining itself to stay vital and fresh after twenty-two years and five previous films.

By bringing back so many familiar faces and making callbacks to earlier films, Fallout feels like the most self-aware of the Mission: Impossible movies. This is the franchise’s most direct sequel yet with Rogue Nation’s Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), villain Solomon Lane (Sean Harris), and Alec Baldwin’s intelligence honcho Alan Hunley all back in key roles. (Fallout also marks the first time an M:I director, Rogue Nation’s Christopher McQuarrie, has returned to helm another installment.)

Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot Review

In a comic strip by cartoonist John Callahan, a sheriff and his posse find an abandoned wheelchair in the desert. One cowboy says to the other, “Don’t worry, he won’t get far on foot.” It’s an amusing strip, and it’s made all the more relevant when you know the story of Callahan himself, who used biting, sometimes offensive humor to process his own disability.

The strip also represents a self-aware wit that is, sadly, lacking in Gus Van Sant’s new biopic about John Callahan. Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot is an earnest but conventional biopic, in which Callahan’s life is mostly told through the lens of his experience at Alcoholics Anonymous, where his abandonment issues take center stage. His art, and his humor, sit most of the movie out, much to its detriment.

What We Know About Fallout 76 By Looking at Its Map

Not unlike a blockbuster film or other major event, rumor and speculation follow in the wake of the announcement of the newest game in the long-running Fallout franchise. While some unease surrounds Fallout 76’s brand-new multiplayer focus, the details of the West Virginia-based map (which, so far, has palpable Fallout 3 vibes) has proved to be a major point of interest. Even at its E3 conference, Bethesda only revealed bits and pieces of the world waiting for us on its November 14, 2018 release.

But rather than wait months for Bethesda to unveil it, I spent some time assembling the pieces in front of us to form a more complete picture of Fallout 76’s setting.

EA Access Adds Another Game On Xbox One

One of the best perks of an EA Access subscription is that you can play games from an ever-growing catalog–“The Vault,” as EA calls it–of free games. This catalog expands further this week with the launch of The Sims 4, which is now in the library.

The Sims 4 is not a new game, as it was originally released on PC back in 2014. The console edition is newer, having been released in November 2017. The life-simulation game was garnered mixed reviews, with GameSpot’s scoring it a 6/10 for PC.

Whatever the case, it’s a big-name franchise that console players may be happy to see added to the Vault to play for free on Xbox One. The Sims 4 was already released in the Origin Access vault of freebies. Additionally, all of The Sims 4’s expansions are 10 percent off.

For more, check out GameSpot’s roundup of all the EA/Origin Access games here.

In addition to free games, EA/Origin Access members can play some games (but not all) ahead of launch; most of the time, subscribers get a five-day headstart. Another benefit is that subscribers save 10 percent on all EA digital content, which knocks down the price of a $60 game to $54. The service costs $5/month or $30/year.

Fortnite Servers Back Online, Though You Might Have To Wait In A Queue

[UPDATE 2] The Fortnite servers are now officially back online, though you might have to wait in a queue before getting to play.

[UPDATE] Epic has yet to make a formal announcement, but here at GameSpot we were able to find a match just now. As always, your mileage may vary. Keep checking back for more.

The original story is below.

Epic Games has brought down Fortnite‘s servers today, the same day that of the battle royale game’s much-anticipated Season 5 debut. Epic discovered issues that impacted players’ ability to log in to the game and get into matches. The issues were so bad, apparently, that Epic made the call to bring the servers down entirely.

Before this happened, players were put into queues in an attempt to minimise server load. GameSpot faced a queue time of more than 28 minutes, while reports on social media claim the queue time was even longer.

We will report back with more details on these server issues as more information becomes available.

While you wait, you can check out GameSpot’s rundown of all of Season 5’s new gear and items. Season 5 changed the Fortnite map in a big way with a new area, Paradise Palms, and rifts that allow players to teleport, basically. Here’s everything you need to know about what’s new.
