The Walking Dead: Andrew Lincoln’s Departure Confirmed

Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, during an IMDb interview with Kevin Smith Smith, taped in advance for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, confirmed the strong rumor regarding the 9th season of the hit series being star Andrew Lincoln’s last.

“It’s looking that way,” said Kirkman reluctantly, when asked by Smith if Lincoln was leaving. The departure of the Rick Grimes character of course, however it might wind up happening, marks a huge divergence from the comics where Rick still exists. “At the end of the day,” Kirkman explained, “it’s all about Andrew Lincoln. This is a human being. This is someone I have known for almost a decade, somebody that I love. He’s been sweating in Georgia, away from his family, for so long.”

Comic-Con 2018: This Huge Lego Thanos Demands You Bow Before Him

San Diego Comic-Con isn’t just a place to check out the latest news from TV and movies. There are also plenty of booths on the show floor featuring over-the-top and impressive set pieces, statues, and more. It’s all just trying to get the average con-goer to stop and pay attention. Over at the Lego booth (#2829), there is an impressive statue of Thanos from Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War.

In case you’re one of the few people that didn’t see Infinity War, Thanos, also know as the mad titan, is the central villain of the film who is ridiculously powerful thanks to his Infinity Gauntlet and the powerful cosmic stones on it. With these stones, he can do almost anything he can think of, even bend reality. Or he can transform into a Lego version of himself, which you can see below.

This impressive statue comes in at eight and a half feet tall and weighs 450 pounds. It took Lego master builders 418 hours to build this monstrosity. And in total, over 91,000 bricks were used in the construction of Thanos. While it may look exceptionally cool in the photos, it doesn’t do the construction justice or show just how massive this piece is.

Avengers: Infinity War is Marvel’s highest grossing movie to date, bringing in over $2 billion at the box office. If you missed it in theaters, don’t worry because the digital release is right around the corner on July 31. It will get a physical release on August 14 as well, and it is loaded with extras.

While Avengers 4 is shrouded in secrecy, we do know a few things about the upcoming movie, including that Drax will make his return. We won’t get to see more of Thanos–in non Lego form that is–until Avengers 4, when it hits theaters on May 3, 2019.

Comic-Con 2018: Spyro Remaster Lets You Choose Between Original And Remastered Soundtracks

Nostalgia has been a strong pull for older franchises to make comebacks, Spyro the Dragon included. We’ve seen Spyro Reignited Trilogy in action already, which contains remakes of first three games in one package. One of the biggest aspects fans fell in love with was the unique soundtrack. And during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, developer Toys For Bob announced that Stewart Copeland–the original series composer, and drummer from The Police–is returning to remaster the soundtrack.

Players will be able to switch between the remastered tracks and the original versions in the options menu, in case they get the itch to listen to the old tracks. A brand-new intro song called “Tiger Train” also channels the spirit of series’ prog-rock vibe.

Copeland himself express enthusiasm for returning to the franchise after all these years, and stated, “Creating new music for the Spyro Reignited Trilogy has been incredibly fun and nostalgic for me. Seeing how the fans loved the original series and soundtrack was a very heart-warming experience 20 years ago, and being able to revisit that fun with the new game has brought things full circle.”

Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon are all remade with high-resolution graphics and artwork for Reignited Trilogy. All games will stay true to the originals in terms of gameplay and level design while visuals will showcase Spyro in an entirely new, modern light. You can get your hands these games on September 21 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

There are eight toys planned so far, with no word if more are planned for further down the line. Hot Wheels is planning on releasing some Mario Kart-inspired tracks for people to race on as well.

Each toy will be sold separately for $5. There’s been no word on whether you’ll be able to buy the karts in bulk, nor how much the Mario Kart-inspired tracks will cost.

For those who prefer to keep their racing purely in the virtual world and out of the physical, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has some new updates on the way. Shinya Takahashi, Nintendo’s head of software development, confirmed new patches are on their way, although Nintendo has yet to reveal what exactly will be added and when that might be. Some Mario Kart fans were disappointed a Double Dash mode wasn’t included in Deluxe, so maybe we can look forward to that.

Despite its comic book roots, Comic-Con has expanded to cover a lot more aspects of nerd and geek culture, including movies, anime, video games, and toys. We’ve already seen some huge fights that will be featured in the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie, a new story trailer for PS4’s Spider-Man, and a surprise announcement and trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7.
