On Today’s Save State, Persia talks about a new and improved Nintendo Switch that was recently reported, free DLC and customizable subtitles for Cyberpunk 2077, and the announcements of Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League from DC Fandome.

Plenty of game events this year have been canceled or otherwise shifted their plans, but The Game Awards will still proceed. Organizer Geoff Keighley talked about how the event will still take place, on-schedule, albeit in a completely digital format.

“What I will say about it is, we have a very interesting plan for the show this year,” Keighley told IGN. “We’re definitely doing it. A lot of people are [asking], ‘Are you delaying it? The Oscars are being postponed, are you postponing The Game Awards?’ We are absolutely not. We’ll share more in the coming weeks about it, but it’s actually probably going to be our biggest show yet.”

Keighley acknowledges that it obviously can’t gather 10,000 people in a single room due to the coronavirus, but he says the plans involve more than him simply streaming by himself. He says this week’s Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation will show some of his plans for the awards show.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board has apparently dealt with an entirely different hot coffee controversy than the one you’ve heard of. In a recent tweet, Triband–the developer behind the comedy sports game What The Golf?–claimed that the ESRB failed the game’s rating because the developer failed to identify a brown substance leaking from a pot in a break room as coffee.

Though it’s not immediately clear what exactly Triband means by a “failed rating,” the ESRB’s rating process is well-documented, particularly in a 40-minute long mini-doc produced by the YouTube channel Noclip. Game developers like Triband submit a questionnaire that describes the potentially objectionable content of the game, as well as a video that demonstrates that content.

These materials are reviewed by a team of raters who work for the ESRB. In the lead-up to the game’s actual release, there’s a chance that it will be playtested for a more thorough review; if a developer is found to have misrepresented their game’s content, penalties may apply. In the case of What The Golf, it’s uncertain at what point this apparent failure occurred. Since the game is out on Switch, it would appear to be a past event, but it could also be ongoing.

Anime streaming service Crunchyroll is changing a few things up for its customers. The company has announced new tiers for its service that offer a wide variety of features for those who want to watch anime. Previously, free and premium tiers were available, but now, there are a couple more.

First and foremost, the free tier still exists for those anime fans on a budget who don’t mind ad-supported content. New episodes of shows, however, will be available one week after the premiere. If you want to watch anime without the ads, you’ll have to sign up for the Fan Tier, which will cost $8 a month. This also grants access to Crunchyroll’s full anime library and access to simulcast series with premiere in Japan.

Additionally, there is the Mega Fan tier for $10, which allows for offline viewing and access to Crunchyroll’s digital manga library. The next step up is the Ultimate Fan tier at $15 a month, which allows access to purchase exclusive merchandise, an annual swag bag, discounts at the Crunchyroll store, and more.

Tamoor and Chris react to The Batman trailer and tell you everything you need to know so far about the upcoming DC film starring Robert Pattinson.

It may have taken nearly 30 years, but at long last a third entry in the Bill and Ted franchise is about to be released. Bill and Ted Face the Music will arrive in theaters and digital release on August 28, and it’s been a bumpy road to get there. It’s been over a decade since stars Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter first started talking about making the movie, and it’s clear that without their unwavering investment in the project, Bill and Ted would have stayed dead.

“I mean, It starts with a meeting at Alex’s house in 2008, all four of us talking about it,” Chris Matheson, who co-wrote all three films, told GameSpot.

In fact, co-writer Ed Solomon explained that the two stars were deeply involved in collaborating on the script. “They are complete partners from beginning to end, especially now. On the first movie, obviously Chris and I wrote it in a vacuum initially, got it set up, and they came on as actors,” he explained. “The second movie, we had two ways to go. The one we liked and the one the studio liked. Alex and Keanu backed the one we liked. Thankfully, we got to do that–Bill and Ted Go to Hell, which is what [Bogus Journey] was originally called. On this movie, they were partners. They showed up every day with everything memorized. We got notes every day. And they were very respectful about the notes. But this is definitely a product of the four of us as partners, not just Chris and me as it was the first go-round.”

From the Robert Pattinson Batman trailer to The Flash’s new costume, here’s everything important that happened at DC Fan

Over the weekend, DC FanDome proved to be the Comic-Con@Home that we all deserved–at least, as long as you’re a fan of DC movies, shows, games, comics, and more. But don’t worry if you missed it–the event lasted only the length of a single work day, then ran on repeat for 24 hours. DC and Warner Bros. made darn good use of that time, packing in tons of announcements, trailers, reveals, news, and more.

Luckily for you, we at GameSpot have compiled all the news worth knowing from DC FanDome. Catch up below and let us know what you’re most excited for in the comments.

1. The Batman trailer

Undoubtedly the biggest news out of DC FanDome was the first trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman–you know, the one starring Robert Pattinson. Watch the trailer here, then check out our frame-by-frame Batman trailer breakdown for every hard-to-spot nugget.

During the movie’s discussion panel, Reeves revealed that it’s a Batman year two story. He also debuted the film’s logo and poster earlier in the week.

2. Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Fans have been quite loudly demanding it for years, and during DC FanDome, we finally got a glimpse of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, AKA “the Snyder cut.” Snyder debuted a trailer for his version of Justice League, and revealed the shocking news that his cut will be four hours long when it debuts on HBO Max.

3. Wonder Woman 1984 trailer and the reveal of Cheetah

Ever since it was announced that Kristen Wiig will play Cheetah in the upcoming Wonder Woman sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, fans have been waiting to get a glimpse of the villain. Would Wigg’s version of Barbara Ann Minerva literally transform into a cat, or would this be a looser interpretation? 4. Gotham City HBO Max series

The Batman director Matt Reeves also gave us some news on the Gotham City-set show he’s working on for HBO Max. Check out the full update here.

5. Shazam 2 title reveal

During a Shazam 2 panel in which star Zach Levi lamented the fact that he couldn’t say much about the movie itself, he was at least able to reveal the sequel’s title: Shazam: Fury of the Gods.

6. The Flash Season 7 trailer

Over on the TV side of the DC multiverse, we got a new trailer for The Flash Season 7. Watch it at that link.

7. The (other) Flash’s new costume

Speaking of the multiverse, the movie version of Barry Allen has a brand new costume, which star Ezra Miller revealed during another FanDome panel. The glimpse of the new costume also showed Flash teaming up with the version of Batman played by Michael Keaton in the 1989 film.

8. Black Adam news

During a panel for the in-production Black Adam movie, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealed that not only will the upcoming Black Adam movie feature both the titular Black Adam and the previously announced Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, but will also bring in several members of the Justice Society of America.

9. The Suicide Squad updates

The first Suicide Squad movie was one of the worst-received comic book adaptations in recent memory, but Warner Bros. has a do-over in the form of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. We got some updates during FanDome, including the full character roster and cast reveal, and some intriguing specifics about John Cena’s character. 10. The Titans are heading to Gotham

For another TV update, we learned where the Titans are headed in Season 3. Here’s a hint: it’s where Batman lives!

11. Sandman Netflix adaptation

We also got a surprise update on the Netflix adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s classic Sandman comic. Gaiman revealed that production is picking up again after COVID-related delays, as well as some of the changes they’re making to the story.

12. Gotham Knights

On the games side, WB Games Montreal finally lifted the veil on Gotham Knights, a co-op action game in which Bruce Wayne is dead. Instead, players assume the roles of Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl, and Red Hood.

13. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Speaking of Batman video games, there was one more huge reveal. Rocksteady, the studio behind the beloved Arkham series of Batman games, introduced its next project: Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which will continue the story begun in the Arkham series.
