The Walking Dead Season 8 Premiere Lowest-Rated Since S3

The Walking Dead’s 100th episode is the zombie drama’s lowest-rated season premiere since 2012’s Season 3, and the third-lowest in the series’ history.

Nielsen ratings (as reported by Variety) for Sunday night’s episode put the total viewers at 11.4 million. By comparison, last season’s opener hit 17.03 million.

Only Seasons 1 and 2 had lower-rated premiere episodes – although it’s worth pointing out that Season 8 did not start by resolving a cliffhanger, as other seasons have.

These are still strong numbers when compared to the rest of the industry, but its a steep drop for a show that’s gained viewers with each season, by and large.

We’ve been a little divided over the latest episode – our 7.3 review called it “a good set-up episode, but because we were only given the initial stages of this conflict, the stakes fell a bit flat.” Some of our other editors were less taken, calling it an all-out bore.

Thor: Ragnarok Finally Solves Marvel’s Biggest Plothole

You know the Infinity Gauntlet? That big glove in the Marvel Cinematic Universe specifically designed to hold all six infinity stones and turn the wearer into basically a God? Well, eagle eyed Marvel fans have been confused by something about it for a while now and Thor: Ragnarok finally clears all that up.

Odin's Vault (Thor, 2011). Odin’s Vault (Thor, 2011).

We first saw the Infinity Gauntlet in the background of Odin’s Trophy Room in the first Thor film when The Destroyer was popping off against the Frost Giants. Notice this one is a right handed gauntlet. Why is this important? Well, the next time we see the gauntlet in the MCU was in the Avengers: Age of Ultron mid credits scene.

Metal Gear Survive News Coming Tomorrow, Konami Teases

Things have been very quiet on the Metal Gear front, with little word on the status of Metal Gear Survive in recent months. That will change very soon, as Konami has teased that some kind of news will finally arrive this week.

In a message posted on Metal Gear’s official Twitter account, Konami simply states, “Announcement coming tomorrow. Stay tuned.” There’s no specific time or clue as to what we can expect; we only know to look for whatever it is tomorrow, October 25. The tweet was accompanied by the image below.

No Caption Provided

Metal Gear Survive is the first game in the franchise to be released since series creator Hideo Kojima parted ways with Konami. It’s a noticeably different sort of game, set in an alternate reality after the events of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes where you have to deal with what amount to zombies–something Kojima finds odd. It also features cooperative multiplayer as a key component, and is due out for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can watch a gameplay demo of it from last year above.

After originally being due out in 2017, earlier this year, Survive’s release was delayed until early 2018. We’ll hopefully get a sense of whether that’s still the case as part of tomorrow’s news.

Wolfenstein: The New Colossus Doesn’t Have Multiplayer Because it Would “Dilute” the Story Mode

Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus has been developed without multiplayer to ensure that the storytelling is not “diluted”

In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, MachineGames’ Tommy Tordsson Bjork talked about the team’s single-player focus when developing the sequel.

“The only way we can create these super immersive narrative experiences is if we can solely focus on the single-player. Having a multiplayer component in this work process would just dilute it all. That’s the danger if you try to do two things at once.”

Tjordsson Bjork further went on to clarify that MachineGames do not believe they are a first-person shooter developer.
