GameCube Controllers Now Work With Nintendo Switch
There’s been an unexpected, unmentioned addition to Nintendo Switch with its 4.0.0 update – GameCube controllers (when using the Wii U’s USB adapters) now work with the system.
Twitter user Master Mewking was among the first to discover the new controller support. It’s not foolproof as yet, with many users reporting that it takes multiple attempts to pair a pad – perhaps explaining why Nintendo hasn’t publicised the change.
The process is, on paper, fairly simple: Make sure your Switch is set to accept wired controllers, plug the adapter in, plug the controller in, choose to pair controllers, then press L and R. Up to four GameCube controllers can be used simultaneously.

South Park Devs Talk Delays, Design, and What’s Next
For a company with dozens of studios around the world and massive franchises like Assassin’s Creed and the Tom Clancy games, it would seem like there’s little place for risk in such a big organization. But that’s just what Ubisoft San Francisco, the studio behind Rocksmith and South Park: The Fractured But Whole, prides itself on delivering within Ubisoft’s lineup.
“If we were making the next Far Cry or another Assassin’s Creed, people would say, ‘Why are you making it in San Francisco,’” Ubisoft SF head and South Park Executive Producer Nao Higo told IGN with a laugh. “You already have great studios in the rest of the world, in a lot cheaper locations…. We have to be different and take chances, take risks, and do something that maybe the larger organization would shy away from dedicating 1,000 people to work on.”

See Assassin’s Creed Origins Running On Xbox One X In Impressive Gameplay Video
We’re nearing the release of Assassin’s Creed Origins, with the launch of Xbox One X not much further off. Provided you’re patient enough to wait for the latter, you’ll be able to take advantage of Xbox One X enhancements in Origins, a taste of which you can get in the video above.
In the gameplay clip, we scale the Great Pyramid of Giza and soak in the view before getting down in the most obvious way possible: by sliding down it. From there, we hop aboard a camel and engage in a chase before finally infiltrating part of a base. You can see all of this above.
Xbox One X renders Origins at 4K for those with 4K displays and offers supersampling for lower-resolution screens. It also offers “higher quality architectural models, vegetation, rocks and display[s] them at longer Draw Distances in dense environments like the grand cities of Alexandria and Memphis,” according to Ubisoft. Xbox One X game enhancements will vary from title to title, with each developer allowed to decide how to leverage the system’s power.
Origins launches for Xbox One, PS4, and PC this Friday, October 27–a particularly big day for new game releases. Xbox One X follows it not long after, on November 7. We’ll have much more coverage of both in the days and weeks ahead; in the meantime, get caught up on the history of Assassin’s Creed, or check out some cool Origins Legendary armor (and mean hippos).

Check Out This Cool Assassin’s Creed Origins Legendary Armor (And Some Mean Hippos)
Assassin’s Creed Origins introduces a variety of new features, such as the ability to scout areas with an eagle you control, enlist the support of animals, and take part in a Horde-style mode. It also features a new gear system, which means you’ll be rewarded with cool equipment for completing certain tasks.
Case in point is the Isu Legendary armor set featured in the video above. It’s a reward for finding all the star constellations in the game, and although it’s purely a cosmetic set, we still think it’s worth the effort. (The stylish gear resembles what you can earn in Destiny 2‘s Trials PvP mode.) The video above shows it off in Origins’ Arena mode.
We’ve also got a new gameplay video showcasing an animal in Origins that you probably don’t usually associate with viciousness: hippopotamuses. But these do in fact present a danger to the game’s inhabitants, as you can check out in the video below, which highlights a side mission with some dangerous hippos.
Ahead of the game’s launch later this week, you can also check out Assassin’s Creed Origins gameplay running on an Xbox One X–something you’ll be able to enjoy yourself once the system arrives on November 7. Origins releases this Friday, October 27, on PS4, Xbox One, and PC; you can get prepared by checking out the history of Assassin’s Creed.

Injustice 2 Coming To PC This Fall On Steam
Injustice 2 is getting a PC release. Today, Warner Bros. Interactive confirmed the acclaimed superhero fighting game will be coming to Steam later this fall. The port is being handled by Polish studio QLOC, which was also responsible for porting another NetherRealm fighting game, Mortal Kombat XL, to PC.
While Warner Bros. has yet to announce a release date for the PC version of Injustice 2, players will be able to try it for themselves very soon. Beginning tomorrow, October 25, an open beta will be available to download and play through Steam. Warner Bros. hasn’t specified how long the beta will be available or which characters it will include.
Injustice 2 is already available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game released this past May for the two platforms to critical acclaim. GameSpot awarded it a 9/10 in our Injustice 2 review; critic Peter Brown said of the title, “NetherRealm has delivered a fighting game that can be enjoyed by new players and pros alike in ways that go beyond pure competition.” The upcoming PC release may not be the game’s last port, as NetherRealm boss Ed Boon says he likes the idea of bringing Injustice 2 to Nintendo Switch.
Injustice 2’s newest DLC character, Atom, was announced earlier this month. He will be available in the game’s third fighter pack beginning this December. The latest character to arrive to the game was Mortal Kombat mainstay Raiden, who is part of Fighter Pack #2 along with Black Manta and the still-to-come Hellboy.

CERN Scientists Conclude that the Universe Should Not Exist
Scientists at CERN are bemused as to why the universe exists, according to a new study.
As Cosmos Magazine reports (via The Independent), recent discoveries suggest that there’s a perfect symmetry between matter and antimatter – meaning it’s not clear why they didn’t annihilate each other upon the birth of the universe.
CERN’s latest study sought to find out whether different magnetic properties accounted for matter’s seeming victory after the Big Bang, but found another point of symmetry.
