This New Batman Story Is an Instant Classic

Sound the alarm: we just got an instant classic Batman story. A comic book that joins the ranks of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s Year One, Alan Moore and Brian Bolland’s The Killing Joke, and Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s The Long Halloween as one of the best Batman stories ever told. “The War of Jokes and Riddles,” written by Tom King with artists Mikel Janin and Clay Mann, is timeless, gorgeous, and adds a game-changing twist to the the Dark Knight mythos.

Now I won’t spoil the best bits, but be warned that I will be going over some plot details to explain just why this story is so unbelievably good.

The Gifted Features a Mutant Power Combo

The next episode of The Gifted will have huge stakes as the mutant underground makes a play to rescue Polaris and Reed during a Sentinel Services prisoner transport. The teaser for the episode shows just about every major character present for the big confrontation with lots of mutant powers and fiery explosions, but before all that, the Strucker kids take some time to practice using their powers together. We have an exclusive preview of that scene along with some commentary from The Gifted showrunner Matt Nix.

Take a look at the clip:

As you can see, siblings Lauren and Andy are able to use their abilities in conjunction to take Andy’s unwieldy, destructive power and precisely aim it with Lauren’s bubblewrap shields. Nix teased that this will prove key to giving the rescue mission a shot at success.

Jungle Review

Whatever appeal there may have been in trekking through the wilderness, chopping through foliage with a machete and inevitably wading through quicksand has, by now, been thoroughly dashed by movies like Jungle, which seem to have a grudge against survivalism. It’s all fun and games until something’s growing inside you and the fire ants attack.

Daniel Radcliffe stars as Yossi Ghinsberg, an Israeli tourist traveling through Bolivia in 1981, who comes across a charismatic adventurer named Karl (Thomas Kretschmann), who has a wild story about secret indigenous tribes and gold by pocketful, deep inside jungle. Naturally, only Karl knows where it is. And since Yossi apparently lost track of that nice businessman who offered to sell him the Brooklyn Bridge, he jumps into this opportunity with both feet, and convinces his new friends Kevin (Alex Russell) and Marcus (Joel Jackson) to join him.
