How a Failed Jurassic Park Game Led to the Creation of the Xbox

After working at Looking Glass games for a number of years, helping to create games like System Shock, Ultimate Underworld II, and Flight Unlimited, Xbox creator Seamus Blackley was forced to confront a new manager who had little experience in the games industry. Rather than follow Blackley’s idea of taking Flight Unlimited’s well-received gameplay and translate it into a flight combat game, the manager wanted to make a direct sequel to compete with Microsoft Flight Simulator’s considerably larger budget. Blackley refused and was quickly fired from Looking Glass.

“I was all full of piss and vinegar with the experience of the flight game,” Blackley says on the next episode of our interview show IGN Unfiltered, which releases tomorrow. “I had it in my mind to take these technologies and really keep pushing in the direction of Looking Glass. We’ll try literally to just put you in an environment somewhere with a bunch of things around and you figure out how the hell to deal with it.”

Jurassic World Evolution: Revealing Isla Pena – IGN First

In Jurassic World Evolution you’re the main person in charge of running parks and all the science behind them on the islands known as Las Cinco Muertes – which is a pretty terrifying name for a holiday destination!

We’ve already seen Tacano and and Matanceros, now welcome to Isla Pena.

It’s one of the most challenging islands for two reasons: first, only a small area of land is suitable for development, so you really have to make every square foot count. Second, everything on Isla Pena takes place at night. Who knows why the Hammond foundation picked it as a great spot for a park full of tourists but there we are.

You can soon play the first three hours of Divinity: Original Sin 2 for free on Xbox One.

As revealed in a recent announcement trailer (seen below), the game is coming to Xbox Game Preview this Wednesday, May 16. After those first three hours, players will then be able to choose to unlock the first act, which is around 20 hours, by purchasing the game.

All of your progress will be carried over and you’ll be able to pick up right where you left off when Divinity: Original Sin 2 launches in August on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Rage 2 Announced With A Trailer; Just Cause Dev Is Involved

Rage 2 is a real game. After Bethesda decided not to deny a recent leak of the game, it’s officially announced the game is indeed in the works with its first trailer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t showcase any gameplay, but that’s just around the corner. Subsequently, an official website has provided us with a few more details–including one of the developers.

Rage 2’s first trailer is comprised almost entirely of live action. A variety of characters who wouldn’t look out of place in Mad Max’s world can be seen fighting, wielding weapons, and… lifting weights. It doesn’t provide any real indication of what to expect from the game, though it does seem to suggest the possibility of a somewhat lighthearted tone (or as lighthearted as can be in a post-apocalyptic world).

Bethesda said that a gameplay trailer will follow soon after this one; that video is due out on Tuesday, May 15. That’s set to drop at the same time that this one did, at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 3 PM BST (12 AM AET on May 16). The company didn’t share anything more, including a release date or platforms, though PC, PS4, and Xbox One seem like fair assumptions.

The official Bethesda website has been updated with an area devoted to Rage 2, and it reveals a bit more than the trailer. Answering the question of what Rage 2 is, it states, “Dive headfirst into a dystopian world devoid of society, law, and order. Rage 2 brings together a true open-world FPS experience where you can go anywhere, shoot anything, and explode everything.” Additionally, the footer of the site notes that it was developed “in association” with Avalanche Studios, the studio responsible for the Just Cause series. It also developed 2015’s Mad Max game.

A recent leak on Walmart Canada’s website seemingly spilled the beans on games that many assumed were planned for E3 2018 reveals. It’s unclear if that’s the case with Rage 2, but Bethesda opted not to take the usual route of declining to comment. Instead, Rage’s Twitter account jokingly made suggestions about problems with the listing, and Bethesda’s account began sending out numerous teaser images.

Bethesda’s E3 2018 press conference is set for Sunday, June 10. The company recently teased that it might be its longest one ever, although beyond Rage 2’s inevitable appearance, we know little else about what will be included.

Spider-Man Collector’s Box Is A GameStop Exclusive

Insomniac’s Spider-Man is swinging in soon, and if you just can’t get enough of the red-and-blue hero, GameStop is carrying an exclusive collector’s box of goodies to pair with the PS4 game.

Not to be confused with the collector’s edition of the game, this collector’s box comes with seven different items, ranging from home goods, wearables, accessories and more. The box is valued at $100 but is being sold for $50.

No Caption Provided

Each Spider-Man collector’s box will come with a backpack, notebook, insulated travel mug, beanie, enamel pin, and two mystery items. If you’re one for subtlety with your video game swag, this collection might be for you, as the arachnid hero and the game’s logo are plastered on each item.

Spider-Man releases exclusively on PS4 on September 7, and Insomniac and Sony haven’t been shy about its details. We know Spider-Man will be one of four games Sony is focusing on at E3 this year, and the game is locked at 30 FPS, and will not have microtransactions.
