17 Years Later, Breaking Benjamin’s Halo 2 Song Goes Platinum

An official soundtrack for Halo 2 was released in 2004 alongside the game. In addition to tracks composed by Martin O’Donnell and Michael Salvatori for the sci-fi FPS, the soundtrack featured tunes by famous bands like Breaking Benjamin, Incubus, and Hoobastank.

Breaking Benjamin had arguably the most famous of these, “Blow Me Away.” Now, coming up on 17 years after the song’s release, the track has reached Platinum status. Per the RIAA’s definitions, this means the song has reached 1,000,000 certification units.

“Blow Me Away” becomes Breaking Benjamin’s eighth single to reach platinum status. The band also has nine Gold-certified songs for a total of 17 songs to reach either designation. This news was first discovered by and reported on by Loudwire.

Netflix’s Peaky Blinders Will End With Season 6, Then Continue With A Movie

Peaky Blinders, the popular British period crime drama television series that Netflix releases, will reportedly conclude with its upcoming sixth season and continue “in another form,” which will most likely be a movie. Via Deadline, that’s the official word from creator Steven Knight, who further elaborated that, “COVID changed our plans. But I can say my plan from the beginning was to end Peaky with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”

This statement echoes Knight’s plans that were circulating way back in 2018, which indicated the creator’s intentions to do a Season 6 and possibly also a Season 7. Each season to date has spanned six tightly plotted, well-crafted, and extremely violent episodes–Netflix currently has the first five seasons available for streaming, and the show recently announced on its own website that production for the sixth and final season started recently.

Set in Birmingham, England, the series follows the criminal exploits and gutsy schemes of the Shelby crime family in the direct aftermath of the First World War. The fictional family is loosely based on a real urban youth gang of the same name, who were active in the city from the 1890s to the early 20th century. The show has continually relished taking the organically occurring opportunities to weave in historical figures–although all that seems clear about Season 6 is that Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) will, despite the rumors, probably not be playing Adolf Hitler.

Hitman 3 Review Roundup

IO Interactive’s rebooted Hitman series has been lauded for its clockwork open-world approach, and this week the trilogy comes to a close. Hitman 3 marks the last game in the stealth trilogy, and critics have started giving their impressions just ahead of release on January 20.

So how does this Hitman game stack up to the others? Critics seem to agree that it’s not just a great stealth assassination game on its own, but also a satisfying conclusion to the series as a whole. In GameSpot’s review, Phil Hornshaw noted that this sequel is “full of fun and fascinating ideas, many of which play with the concepts underpinning the last four years of Hitman levels,” and awarded it a 9/10.

As always, Hitman 3 rewards repetition to fully plumb its depths and see all of the mechanics and characters moving around the world on their schedules. An intimate knowledge of every setting is required to execute some of the more intricate assassinations, but if you just want to finish as fast as possible, you can complete the story campaign in about 8 hours. In addition to all the high-powered consoles and PC, Hitman 3 is also coming to Nintendo Switch via cloud streaming.

New On Netflix This Week: Spycraft, Blown Away, And More

For a shortened work week here in the United States, there’s a slightly truncated week of new shows and movies on Netflix. The busiest day ahead will be Friday, but fortunately there are still a couple of releases peppered throughout the weekend afterwards and the days ’til then to help keep things interested.

While 007: No Time to Die continues to get delayed again and again, Netflix’s new documentary series Spycraft is a nice way to bide some time. Coming out on Wednesday, the show is basically a version of MythBusters–though not at all affiliated with that show–for people wondering if all the stuff Q gives to James Bond has any roots in reality. There’s tons of context for the gadgets that are dug into, as the show also goes deep on the historical context for each bit of gear and why it was revolutionary at the time for espionage.

For something completely different, Friday sees the long-awaited release of Blown Away: Season 2. Yes, the show is another competition series, but it scores off the charts for originality–the show features 10 master artists who compete in glassblowing sculpture challenges for the chance to win $60,000 in prizes. The first season aired way back in 2019 on Netflix, which means you have the whole week to get caught up on and totally sucked into the phenomenal and unique show.

Avengers: Endgame Almost Had a Post-Credits Scene Setting Up WandaVision

WandaVision star Paul Bettany has revealed that Avengers: Endgame was originally going to feature a post-credits scene that would have foreshadowed the Disney+ show.

Speaking with co-star Elizabeth Olsen in a recent IMDb video, Bettany, who portrays Vision in the new sitcom-style series, outlined a scrapped Avengers: Endgame scene that would have teased the super-powered android’s prospective return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite the character suffering an on-screen death during the events of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.

“At one point there was going to be a tag, where [Scarlet Witch] opened a sort of body bag drawer and there was the Vision,” Bettany explained in the ‘Ask Each Other Anything’ session. “[Marvel Studios boss] Kevin [Feige] kind of talked to me and said, ‘I’ve got to pull the shots.’ And I was like, ‘Ugh!’ Because I really wanted that profit participation!”

Despite not making an appearance in Avengers: Endgame, the android Avenger remerged in the MCU’s phase 4 opener WandaVision, which debuted on Disney+ last Friday. However, the first two episodes of the MCU sitcom focused more heavily on the set-up and introduction of the show’s high-concept ideas than the plot, meaning that we’re not much clearer about Vision’s return.

Whether it all takes place in Wanda’s mind, or the cinematic incarnation of the Scarlet Witch finds a way to alter reality, we suspect it won’t end happily. With Wanda’s involvement in the Doctor Strange sequel, Multiverse of Madness, the Scarlet Witch might even end up as broken as she was for a time in the comic books when the series draws to a close.

For more background on WandaVision, check out our explainer on the Disney+ series and the comics that could be inspiring it, then read up about Wanda and Vision’s story so far, and how the new show fits into the MCU timeline. Capcom Likely to Release Some of the Rarest Amiibo Ever Made… Again

Capcom has a bit of history with releasing ultra-rare amiibo, and is likely to repeat that history with some Japan-only gold Monster Hunter Rise figurines.

As Eurogamer points out, a set of gold versions of the three Monster Hunter Rise amiibo will be made available as part of a lottery to those who buy the game as a download code from Japanese 7-Eleven stores.

The gold Monster Hunter Rise amiibo.

While Capcom hasn’t formally said how many sets of the gold amiibo will be released, past evidence suggests they’ll be extremely hard to come by. Capcom previously ran a similar competition for a gold Mega Man 11 amiibo, only releasing 10 of the figurine. It also released one each of silver and gold Monster Hunter Stories figurines, making them almost certainly the rarest amiibo in circulation.

We’re nearing 200 separate amiibo have seen release, with Cat Mario and Cat Peach, Terry Bogard, Byleth, and Banjo & Kazooie figures still to come from Nintendo this year.

Monster Hunter Rise (and its amiibo) will arrive on March 26, and you can play a demo right now, until February 1.
