Snyder pointed out that the Martha moment is more about Batman’s humanity than it is about their mothers simply having the same name, the moment is intended as a catalyst for him to empathize with Superman.
Another moment that received criticism was the similarity of the Wayne Tower’s collapse to 9/11 imagery. Snyder has said that this was purposeful, in order to evoke an emotional reaction and draw comparisons to the kind of trauma it would cause for Bruce Wayne.
