Y: The Last Man FX Series Casts Ben Schnetzer as Yorick

Actor Ben Schnetzer has been cast for the role of Yorick Brown in the TV adaptation of Y: The Last Man, multiple outlets are reporting.

Schnetzer will star in the long-gestating FX series alongside a cast that includes Diane Lane, Imogen Poots, Lashana Lynch, Juliana Canfield, Marin Ireland, and Amber Tamblyn. Previously, actor Barry Keoghan was set to play the role of Yorick and had been attached to the project since 2018, but left the series in early February.

Currently, production is scheduled to begin sometime in April. The plot for the FX TV series follows the comic book Y: The Last Man, created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Pia Guerra.

Character Yorick Brown is the last surviving male on Earth with his pet monkey, Ampersand, after a deadly plague. The DC Comics series follows their journey as they try to survive in this new world.

The troubled development of Y: The Last Man as a TV series goes as far back as 2014. However, FX president John Landgraf, spoke last month about it progressing along in pre-production, following a showrunner change.

“Eliza Clark is running that show with Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson. We’ve seen five or six scripts now. We haven’t scheduled it because it hasn’t gone into production yet. But it seems to be going well.”

You’ll Be Able To Stream Black Panther On Disney+ Soon

With Disney launching its own streaming service, it was only a matter of time before the Marvel movies would be taken off competitors and made exclusively available on Disney+. Black Panther is the latest MCU film to move to Disney+, and will do so on March 4.

And in the future, other MCU movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp will also be leaving Netflix and migrating to Disney+. They will do so June 25 and July 29, respectively.

Disney+ has been making headlines for other reasons too. Disney’s Lizzie McGuire Reboot has been the center point of discussion for its sudden halt in production. Variety reported that Hillary Duff was unhappy with director Terri Minsky’s sudden dismissal. The production team and Duff only found out about the director’s removal after the story broke online. According to Variety, Duff and the director wanted to make the show more adult, while the Disney executives wanted to make it more kid and family friendly, like the original show.

Gearbox, Amazon Join List Of GDC Drop Outs Amid Coronavirus Concerns

The Games Developer Conference (GDC) is in a bit of an unprecedented situation this year, as a growing list of companies announce that they won’t be attending amidst coronavirus concerns. A majority of the list is composed of large tech companies or triple-A game developers and publishers, which has left indie devs and journalists wondering if GDC is even still happening this year.

For now, GDC has been delayed to Summer 2020 and organizers are working to implement precautionary measures in order to hopefully diminish the chances of attendees getting sick. In a blog post, organizers have said that GDC details will be finalized “in the coming weeks” so we may not have to wait very long to get new event dates.

Ultimately, time will tell. It remains to be seen whether all the companies that dropped out of GDC will return or how organizers will handle developers and publishers that have already purchased GDC passes but can’t attend on the new dates. Look below for GameSpot’s coverage of the major tech and game companies that have chosen to drop out of GDC this year–which are part of a list that includes Amazon, Microsoft, Blizzard Entertainment, Unity, Facebook, Epic Games, Electronic Arts, Sony, and Gearbox.

GDC 2020 Postponed Due To Coronavirus Following Numerous Dropouts

Recent weeks have seen numerous companies from the games industry–both big and small–drop out of this year’s Game Developers Conference. This all stems from concerns related to COVID-19, more commonly known as the coronavirus, sparking speculation that the event itself could be canceled. Although the event hasn’t been canceled, less than three weeks before it was scheduled to begin, GDC 2020 has officially been postponed and will now take place “later in the summer.” A more specific date has not been revealed.

“After close consultation with our partners in the game development industry and community around the world, we’ve made the difficult decision to postpone the Game Developers Conference this March,” a statement on the GDC website reads.

“Having spent the past year preparing for the show with our advisory boards, speakers, exhibitors, and event partners, we’re genuinely upset and disappointed not to be able to host you at this time.
