NBA Live 19 Review
I didn’t expect to like NBA Live 19 as much as I did. It’s not without its flaws, that’s for sure, but the actual basketball that takes place on its court feels and looks great. It even has some inventive modes, such as a surprisingly entertaining tower-defense style court battle, alongside the money-hungry Ultimate Team mode that’s become a staple of every EA Sports game. But while it feels like a fluid and realistic game of hoops, it also comes up short in the personality department, which allows a lot of potential excitement to slip through its fingers.
Player models look the part of their real-life counterparts, to the point where they’re instantly recognizable — there’s no mistaking Aron Baynes and his manbun for another player. Live 19 also brings back the WNBA players that were introduced in last year’s game and adds the inclusive ability to create a female basketball avatar just like you can with the men.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Rockstar Reveals New Characters’ Names
Rockstar Games spent yesterday rounding up its posse. Put another way, the developer is tweeting out names and quotes for some of the characters coming in Red Dead Redemption 2, most of whom seem to be at least associated with the Dutch Van der Linde gang.
Many of these characters were known to us either from the last game, or our previews of the next – but a few of these characters are being seen or named for the first time. Check out the whole line-up below:
Among the new reveals were Susan Grimshaw, Tilly Jackson and Molly O’Shea. We also see the Marston family to be, from the young John, a really young Jack, and the yet-unmarried Abigail.
The Predator Review
This is an advance review out of the Toronto International Film Festival 2018.
With its bawdy sense of humor, disorderly cast of characters, and hardcore kills and action, The Predator does a lot right to reinvigorate the 31-year-old series. But everything crashes down during its frenzied, messy final act, a disappointing conclusion to what had largely been a fun romp up until that point.
Shane Black (who played a supporting role as Hawkins in the 1987 original) co-wrote and directed this continuation of the franchise, bringing his signature blend of dark, profane comedy, and offbeat familial dynamics to the material. The Predator blends humor and heart as it explores two broken families: one, a group of self-proclaimed “Loonies” – psychologically damaged veterans bound for a military psych ward – and the other is the McKennas, a military family that’s fallen apart for a host of reasons. The latter includes dad Quinn (Boyd Holbrook), a former soldier now employed as a merc, mom Emily (Yvonne Strahovski), and their young son Rory (Jacob Tremblay).

This is an advance review out of the Toronto International Film Fest 2018. Outlaw King premieres on Netflix on November 9.
Netflix’s Outlaw King is a beautiful-looking but uneven historical drama featuring an uncertain lead performance from Chris Pine. The film, which reunites Pine with Hell or High Water director David Mackenzie, has the heart but seldom the fighting spirit of the battle-crying, sword-wielding underdog epics of yesteryear that it wants to evoke.
The story chronicles Robert the Bruce’s (Pine) journey from defeated rebel to King of Scots, waging a campaign to win the crown and unite his countrymen against their English overlords. Shot on location in Scotland, director David Mackenzie (and cinematographer Barry Ackroyd) captures the damp and dreary beauty of his native country. The movie begins with a nearly 10-minute-long, one-take scene that includes an oath ceremony, a duel, and a catapult firing on a castle. It’s a promising start but after that the film progresses on unsure footing, as rough and rocky as the terrain its characters travel. The narrative lurches from perfunctory political scenes to countryside ambushes to quieter moments and then repeat.
Iron Fist Season 2 Finds Its Strength By Learning Its Weakness
This is a spoiler-free review of Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2, which is now streaming on Netflix.
The greatest strength of Iron Fist Season 2 is that it finally recognizes what most of us figured out in Season 1: Danny Rand is the show’s weak link.
This isn’t entirely Finn Jones’ fault – the Danny we met last season, as written by former showrunner Scott Buck, was arrogant, condescending, and naive by design, and in Season 2, both Jones and new showrunner M. Raven Metzner are faced with the challenge of digging themselves out of that hole before they can attempt to make Danny a hero worth rooting for, as opposed to one we just tolerate in order to spend time with his supporting cast.
