In the wake of Sunday’s Madden Championship Series shooting in Jacksonville, Florida, Penny Arcade and partner ReedPOP have issued a statement regarding security for their upcoming PAX West convention.

Penny Arcade and ReedPOP wrote that their “hearts go out” to everyone affected by the shooting, which resulted in three deaths, including the shooter’s, and 11 injuries.

“The safety of our attendees, exhibitors, and staff is paramount to ReedPOP and Penny Arcade,” reads the statement. “As PAX has grown in popularity, we have responded with the addition of increased private security, law enforcement, and other personnel, each of whom are on-site at all times during our events.”

Since its first demo at E3, Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most talked-about games of 2018. Both the E3 and Gamescom versions of the behind-closed-doors demo offered an in-depth look at the first-person sci-fi RPG, and now that 50-minute gameplay sequence has been released to the general public.

Ah, September. That wonderful month when half of us begin our struggle of going back to school. At least Netflix has a bunch of new movies, TV shows, and original series for those weekend binge sessions. There’s a lot of new goodies this coming month, although we’re losing quite a few movies and series as well. Here’s the full rundown on what’s new and leaving in September 2018.

The big addition in September is Black Panther, the Marvel superhero movie that took the world by storm this past February. If you happened to miss out on this celebration of African culture–which we described as “a top tier Marvel movie with all the humor, style, action, passion, and fun that the MCU has come to embody” in our Black Panther review–then now’s your chance. Other film highlights coming in September are Groundhog Day, Scarface, Bruce Almighty, The Breakfast Club, Lilo & Stitch, The Emperor’s New Groove, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Netflix exclusive Next Gen.

The list of new TV shows isn’t as impressively large, but there are a few stellar options being added. Both Bojack Horseman and Stranger Things are getting new seasons. If you like staying appraised of everything going on in the MCU, Iron Fist is also returning another season.

If animation is your thing, new anime series Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan–about a rookie air force pilot who finds herself being chosen as the destined rider for an actual dragon–and animated series The Dragon Prince–which is created by the same folks behind Avatar: The Last Airbender–debut on Netflix this September.

Of the movies and TV shows being removed, Nolan’s Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are the two noticeable standouts. If you want to watch either movie again, do so soon before they’re gone for good.

HBO has shared a first brief look at Game of Thrones’ upcoming final season.

The network released a trailer, via EW, showing what’s coming to HBO in 2019, which includes the return of Game of Thrones. While almost all of the Game of Thrones footage featured in the trailer is from Season 7, there is one new shot of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner).

The two characters can be seen reuniting in Winterfell, embracing each other.

Fans will have to wait a bit longer for Game of Thrones’ return, as Season 8 is set to premiere in the first half of 2019.

Actress Melissa McCarthy returned to theaters this weekend with her outlandish R-rated puppet comedy The Happytime Murders, although it managed to underperform with just over $10 million in third place. The opening is actually the worst of McCarthy’s career, for a movie opening in wide release, and when you take a closer look at the movie’s she’s opened, they often aren’t very consistent. With that in mind, we’re taking a deep dive through McCarthy’s previous films, and how they debuted at the box office.

There are movies McCarthy has appeared in that have opened worse than The Happytime Murders, but these are movies where she only had a minor role, like The Life of David Gale ($7.1 million), Drowning Mona ($5.8 million), White Oleander ($5.6 million) and Go ($4.7 million). There are also others which had worse debuts, since they were only given a limited debut such as St. Vincent ($109,878 from four theaters), The Nines ($23,617 from two theaters) and Pretty Ugly People ($2,522 from three theaters). Still, with those movies aside, The Happytime Murders marked a new career low for McCarthy.

InkyPen, a new comic subscription service, will be brought to the Nintendo Switch this November, making it possible for users to read comics on the handheld device. It will also be the first international non-game app to come to the eShop on the Switch, according to Variety.

The app will let comics be read in either the handheld or TV mode and will be launching at $8 per month. InkyPen will have a library of over 10,000 graphic novels, manga, and European comics.
