The developer behind Just Cause 3 and Rage 2 is teasing a new unannounced game.
Avalanche Studios offered a glimpse of the game on Twitter, with a hashtag mentioning it’s a new franchise. The off-screen image appears to show off a first-person shooter.
The Halloween series is one the most successful horror franchises ever made, but like most long-running series, the quality of the films has been extremely variable over the years. This October sees the release of the latest movie; it’s simply called Halloween and will ignore every entry since John Carpenter’s 1978 original. The first trailer is expected later this week, but ahead of that, we have the first official images.
Two of the pictures feature psychotic killer Michael Myers, wearing his distinctive white mask and looking very scary indeed. The third is of original star Jamie Lee Curtis, who returns as Laurie Strode, getting attacked by Michael through a door. Check them out below:
These images follow the movie’s poster, which was released in April. Halloween is directed by acclaimed indie director David Gordon Green (George Washington, Pineapple Express), with a script co-written by comedian and actor Danny McBride (Eastbound and Down, Alien Covenant). Carpenter is involved as a story advisor and is composing the movie’s score.
In an interview with Charleston City Paper last year, McBride spoke about his and Green’s approach to the movie, and how they were tapping into the more subtle scares of the first film. “The original is all about tension,” he said. “Laurie Strode [Curtis’ character] doesn’t even know that Michael Myers exists until the last minutes of the movie. So much of it you’re in anticipation of what’s going to happen and the dread that Carpenter spins so effortlessly in that film, I think we were really trying to get it back to that.
“We’re trying to mine that dread. Mine that tension and not just go for gore and ultra-violence that you see some horror movies lean on. To us, it was all about bringing back the creep factor and trying to find the horror in your own backyard, in our own homes.”

Tetris Effect, a new game by Rez and Lumines creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi, has been announced for PS4 and PSVR. It’s due for release this Fall.
Named for the real-life effect in which Tetris players will visualise blocks and lines disappearing well after playing the game, the game will feature “fan-favourite” Tetris modes, like Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra. However, brand new modes will be announced before launch.
Here’s an announcement trailer, with an explanation of the Tetris Effect:
The first new feature announced is ‘The Zone’, with which “players can stop time (and Tetriminos falling)
and either get out of a sticky situation that could otherwise lead to “Game Over,” or rack up extra line clears for bonus rewards.”
The last season of Telltale’s acclaimed Walking Dead series kicks off this summer. The developer announced that the first episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season drops on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 14, with a Nintendo Switch release set to follow sometime later this year.
The Final Season marks the culmination of Clementine’s story, who Telltale says has grown into a “fierce and capable survivor.” In addition to a new over-the-shoulder camera system, The Final Season features a new “Graphic Black” art style and scenes with unscripted combat. The developer also teases that players will need to wrestle with “new types of choices” as they guide Clementine’s story to its conclusion. Here’s Telltale’s synopsis of the season:
“After years on the road facing threats both living and dead, a secluded school might finally be her chance for a home. But protecting it will mean sacrifice. Clem must build a life and become a leader while still watching over AJ, an orphaned boy and the closest thing to family she has left. In this gripping, emotional final season, you will define your relationships, fight the undead, and determine how Clementine’s story ends.”
Ahead of its release, players can pre-order The Final Season on PS4, Xbox One, and PC beginning June 8. Pre-orders run for $20 and grant players access to all four episodes of the season as they become available. Those who reserve the game on consoles will also receive The Walking Dead Collection, a compilation of all previous 19 episodes in the series.
In addition to the final season of The Walking Dead, Telltale is currently working on a new season of The Wolf Among Us. That was originally slated to launch later this year, but it has now been pushed back into 2019. According to the developer, the delay comes partly “as the result of a few fundamental changes here at Telltale since we first announced the game last summer”–presumably referring to the major layoffs that hit the studio late last year.
Nick Fury doesn’t appear in Black Panther, but Samuel L. Jackson wanted him to show up.
On The Ellen DeGeneres Show (via EW), Jackson discussed how much he wanted his Marvel character to be Black Panther. “Can I just walk down the street in Wakanda so they know that I know it’s there? Because Iknow it’s there,” Jackson said.
“I mean, Nick Fury knows every black thing that’s on the planet, so he’s gotta know about Wakanda.”
That said, Jackson isn’t upset about the decision. He mentioned that he’s “really, really, really pleased with the success of that film.” Though that’s not keeping him from holding out hope Fury has a presence in Black Panther 2.
