This Is How THAT MCU Character Was Brought Back in Infinity War

Spoilers follow for Avengers: Infinity War.

And there you have it. After years of speculation, anticipation, and nerd-splaining among fans, the Red Skull — that classic Captain America villain of the ghastly red visage and even more frightening evil-speech-ifying — has returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Infinity War. Though he’s half the man he used to be, it seems.

The Red Skull, a.k.a. Johann Schmidt, was the head of HYDRA back during World War II, of course, and the chief nemesis of Captain America in his debut movie, The First Avenger. In the MCU telling of his story, in fact, he even took a work in progress version of the Super Soldier Serum — the drug that gave Steve Rogers his enhanced abilities. But in Schmidt’s case he was warped and Skull-ified by the stuff.

What Happened to the Infinity Gauntlet at the End of Avengers: Infinity War?

Avengers: Infinity War follows Thanos on his quest to fill his Infinity Gauntlet with the six Infinity Stones. Harnessing the power to control all of creation requires a pretty strong artifact and it looks like even the Infinity Gauntlet can’t handle that kind of stress for long. But what did Thanos do with the gauntlet and the stones?

After Thor thought he landed the killing blow on Thanos during the Battle of Wakanda, the purple titan survived long enough to use the full power of the infinity Stones, eviscerating half the universe’s population with a snap of his fingers.
