GTA 5: Here’s What’s New In GTA Online For PS4, Xbox One, And PC This Week
Rockstar Games has announced all the new content, events, and sales in GTA Online this week. Starting with the new content, the Ubermacht Revolter luxury car is now in the online game and available to purchase from Legendary Motorsport.
The slick-looking car is a deadly beast, featuring a machine gun on the front to keep enemies at bay like something out of James Bond. The fictional car’s tagline is “Looks for the red carpet, power for when the deal goes south.”

Also in GTA Online this week, you can earn double GTA$ and RP for the new Adversary multiplayer mode Air Quota, which was added last week. Up to four teams and 16 players face off and transform through a series of aircraft, from helicopters to jets to jetpacks. Additionally, GTA Online players can earn double bonuses in every Rockstar-made Stunt and Land race through January 29.
As for the sales and discounts, various MKII upgrades and customization options are on sale this week (see below). Additionally, the Warstock Cache & Carry store is holding a 25% off sale on two vehicles: the Benefactor Turreted Limo and the HVY APC amphibious tank.
- Mk II Upgrades – 30% off (cost to upgrade to Mk II weapon)
- Mk II Magazines – 25% off
- Mk II Scopes – 25% off
- Mk II Muzzles – 25% off
- Mk II Weapon Liveries – 25% off
Finally, this week’s Premium Race in GTA Online is Tube Rider with the Ruiner 2000 vehicle, while the Time Trial event is “Coast to Coast.” As usual, if you finish in the top three in the Premium Race you’ll get an allotment of GTA$, while every participant earns triple RP no matter where they finish. For the Time Trial, beating the average time will earn you double GTA$ and RP.
GTA Online, the multiplayer mode for GTA V, set a record in December 2017 for the most number of people to play the game in a single month in the game’s history. Overall, 2017 was the “biggest year” ever for GTA Online, which is impressive given that the game launched back in October 2013.

Intel Says Do Not Use The Latest Security Patch For Spectre And Meltdown, Here’s Why
In light of the Spectre and Meltdown security issues embedded in CPUs across the board, Intel put out an early version of a firmware update to help resolve the problem. However, Intel itself has come out and said that it is now recommending against using the updated firmware in its current state due to system instability and crashes.
Intel executive VP Navin Shenoy gave an official statement. In part, he said the following: “We recommend that OEMs, cloud service providers, system manufacturers, software vendors and end users stop deployment of current versions, as they may introduce higher than expected reboots and other unpredictable system behavior.”
Shenoy continued to explain that firmware testing is continuing in hopes of releasing a final version as soon as possible, but no time table was given. Intel also said that its discovered what’s causing the instability in Broadwell (5th-gen) and Haswell (4th-gen) CPUs, but other CPU architectures are still affected to varying degrees.
Microsoft rolled out an emergency OS update for Windows earlier this month as a quick way to mitigate system vulnerabilities, but it may affect overall performance depending on processor model and the specific task its running. Some AMD users had trouble getting their system to boot with the initial Windows updates earlier in the month and had to wait for a more stable version to come out.
The security risk itself is fundamentally at the hardware level. Essentially, a CPU kernel memory leak potentially leaves personal data exposed and vulnerable to exploits and malicious software attacks. AMD has said there is a “near-zero” chance of this happening with its hardware.
For more information on what these Spectre/Meltdown security issues and how it can affect PC gaming, check out our rundown of five things you need to know about. If you want more technical details and how CPU manufacturers Intel, AMD, and ARM responded, check out our initial story on the issue.
