Final Fantasy XV has received its share of unusual DLC items in the months following its launch, but perhaps the most bizarre was the infamous Cup Noodle hat, which could be acquired in Japan by purchasing a Nissin Cup Noodles pack and redeeming a code. (It was later released in other regions as a free download.) Square Enix is partnering with Nissin again for a similar promotion, this time for its upcoming PS4 fighting game, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.
Players who purchase a specially marked package of Cup Noodles will receive a download code for Final Fantasy XV protagonist Noctis’s Royal Raiment outfit. The promotion is available now, but it’s currently limited to residents in the US. You can see an image of the specially marked Cup Noodles packages below.
To receive your download code, you’ll need to take a photo of your receipt clearly showing the Cup Noodles line item and text the keyword “CUPNOODLES” to 87963. After that, you’ll need to text the photo of your receipt to the short code that’s printed on the inside of the Cup Noodles pack. You’ll then receive a text message with the download code for Noctis’s Royal Raiment outfit, which can be redeemed on PSN. You can read more about the promotion here.
Those who’d like to try Dissidia Final Fantasy NT before it releases will soon have the opportunity to take part in its next open beta, which kicks off next week, on January 12. Square Enix hasn’t announced a start time for the beta just yet or detailed what content will be featured in it, but it will run until January 21.
Ridley Scott may direct a movie based on Merlin for Disney.
Variety reports Scott is in talks with Disney for The Merlin Saga, and it may be the filmmaker’s next project with Philippa Boyens (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) penning the script. Scott’s production company Scott Free is also in negotiations to produce the movie.
While not much is currently known about The Merlin Saga, it is said to be based on T.A. Barron’s novel series, which follows a young Merlin becoming a mentor to King Arthur. It is one of two movies Disney is currently developing based on the character, with the other one being a live-action remake of 1963’s Sword in the Stone. Scott has met with Disney about this project as well.
Less than a year after closing, peripheral maker Mad Catz is back from the dead.
The revitalized accessory maker, which filed for bankruptcy last year before closing its doors, is back under new management. The company is now known as Mad Catz Global Limited, with its headquarters located in Kowloon, Hong Kong. It will show off some its new products at the Consumer Electronics Show this year from January 9-12.
“We couldn’t be more excited than to begin 2018 by announcing the return of Mad Catz to the global gaming arena,” said Selena Chang, director of sales and operations for Mad Catz Global Limited. “Mad Catz has been a permanent fixture in gaming for almost three decades and we firmly believe it’s best days lie ahead.”
FOX shared the news today, ahead of the show’s two-hour Season 1 finale, which airs on Monday, January 15.
The new X-Men spinoff series, executive produced by Burn Notice’s Matt Nix, as well as Bryan Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory, debuted this past October and ranks as the No. 3 new drama of the 2017-2018 season.

Warner Bros. has reportedly promoted Walter Hamada to oversee its DC film production division.
According to Variety, Hamada will serve as the new president of DC Films, replacing Jon Berg and Geoff Johns. In the wake of Justice League’s disappointing performance at the box office, reports emerged last month that DC Films would undergo a restructuring in January that would make Berg a production partner alongside Roy Lee.
Star Citizen raised a lot of money in 2017. According to data collected by Polygon, the super-ambitious PC space sim raised $34.91 million last year, which is down from $36.11 million the year prior. In total, Star Citizen has raised an astonishing $175.9 million, according to the game’s own publicly available funding data. Note that these figures do not include money given back via returns, but even with those accounted for, the number is surely still huge.
To put the $34.91 million in perspective, it’s more than double the money ($17.25 million) that the more than 700 Kickstarter video game projects brought in, combined, in 2017. It’s been two years running that Star Citizen’s own yearly funding tally has more than doubled the combined efforts of every video game project on Kickstarter.
