The Walking Dead #173 Review

The Walking Dead has more or less circled back around to where it was in the aftermath of “All Out War.” Once again, things are looking up for humanity as our heroes shift focus from the immediate battle for survival to their ongoing effort to rebuild civilization. The tone is more optimistic, even as it becomes clear there are new threats lurking on the horizon. That status quo is still compelling, though it does begin to raise the question of how much the series has actually accomplished with arcs like “The Whisperer War.” Does the narrative really need to be quite so cyclical?

That problem is exemplified by the return of Beta and the Whisperers in this issue. As promising as these villains were starting out, they didn’t really live up to that potential in “The Whisperer War.” It seemed that Robert Kikrkman and Charlie Adlard might have the opportunity to change that with Beta’s sudden return in issue #172. Sadly, that doesn’t pan out. The initial confrontation between Jesus and Beta offers a welcome dose of dramatic tension (especially in light of last month’s breezy, unencumbered chapter), but the payoff is lacking. That encounter eventually transitions from one of violent tension to unexpected comedy. At this point, it doesn’t seem as though the Whisperers will ever become the villains they could have been, especially as the focus shifts firmly towards the next big bump in the road.

EA Might Discount Star Wars: Battlefront 2 When The Last Jedi Comes Out

You can expect Electronic Arts to discount Star Wars: Battlefront II at around the time Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theatres, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen says. The thinking is that interest in the new movie will elevate the profile of Star Wars overall, and with a lower price point, that could help Battlefront II sell a ton of copies.

During EA’s earnings briefing this week, Jorgensen pointed out that the company did this for 2015’s Battlefront, discounting the game to piggyback on the hype surrounding Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It seems like that worked, as Battlefront shipped more than 14 million copies, becoming one of the most commercially successful Star Wars games ever.

Jorgensen added that you might also see discounts on Battlefront II during Thanksgiving/Black Friday and Christmas. Oftentimes when games get discounted so soon after release, that’s because they are performing poorly in the market. But Jorgensen said you shouldn’t look at Battlefront II discounting this way necessarily.

“That’s the way the games business always has worked. And so if you see the title on discount, don’t read anything into that other than the fact that, that’s the way you sell games in the holidays,” he said (via MP1ST).

EA also historically discounts its Madden game every year when the Super Bowl comes around to capitalize on the increased interest.

For his part, EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the company hopes to see a boost from Disney’s own marketing effort for The Last Jedi. “We’re seeing the anticipation build for the movie in the same way we’re seeing anticipation build for the game,” Wilson said.

Battlefront II launches for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17, a few weeks before The Last Jedi hits theatres on December 15. In other news about Battlefront II, some fresh footage of Kylo Ren on the battlefield has emerged–see it here.

Every Major Alien Race in the MCU

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (or MCU, for short) is getting bigger all the time. Characters like Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange are exploring new worlds and dimensions on a regular basis, and along the way they are encountering new species of intelligent alien life which are at turns beautiful, frightening, and downright silly. And now, with Thor: Ragnarok hitting theaters, the MCU is poised to get even bigger.

With the Marvel movie-verse expanding at this rate, it’s going to be pretty hard for some of the more casual fans of the series to keep up. That’s why we’ve compiled this handy-dandy guide to the most prominent, or at least most visible, alien species we have encountered so far on these travels. Some are important characters, some are side creations. Some have distinctive characteristics and cultures, some are the result of filling in the blanks between the movies and the comics. But they all make the MCU a fascinating place to visit and (we assume) to live. Check them all out below…

Avengers: Infinity War Is Like a Heist Film, Says Director

The directors of Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War have said that their upcoming movie is a heist film.

In an interview with CNET, directors Joe and Anthony Russo revealed that Infinity War borrows heavily from the heist film genre with the introduction of Thanos as a main character.

“With “Infinity War,” the biggest new element to the movie is Thanos and the fact that he’s entering the storytelling in a very bold, strong way, to the degree that he’s almost one of the leads. We’ve shaped an interesting narrative around him that in some ways leans heavily on a heist film in the fact that he’s going after the infinity stones in a much bolder, successful way than he has in the past. The entire movie has that energy of the bad guy being one step ahead of the heroes. We looked at a lot of movies that had that heist-style energy to them,
