7 Crucial Things to Know About Pacific Rim: Uprising
On a boiling hot Thursday in February, we took a bus out to Homebush, a sprawling suburb located about a 40 minutes drive out of the Sydney CBD on a good day. Pacific Rim: Uprising’s set here looked bare from a distance, bar the four 20-meter high bluescreens that will become the large submarine station that houses its Jaegers, the “Shatterdome”.
The set is a lot busier on closer look. Groups of military and scientists across multiple ethnicities stroll the same carefully choreographed route after every call of action. Trucks trundle across the tarmac, reverse, then do it again. Earth’s last line of defence has changed in the 10 years since the events of the first film, and Pan Pacific Defence Corps is now a humming homogeneous organisation, united across all countries in its efforts to defend humanity against the omnipresent threat of the Kaijus.

New Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Arrives, Watch It Here
A new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has landed. The video aired tonight during Game 7 of the World Series, and it’s a pretty special spot. There are a number of standout sequences, including a shot of Luke on the Millennium Falcon, an adorable Porg, Finn in a battle with Captain Phasma, and Kylo Ren letting his anger out.
The trailer’s tagline is “Darkness rises… and light to meet it.” Here’s the video:
The Last Jedi is directed by Rian Johnson and stars Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, and Andy Serkis. Tickets for The Last Jedi are now on sale prior to its December 15 release.
Unsurprisingly, the movie is expected to have a huge opening weekend at the box office. Early first-weekend projections have predicted that the film will make $215 million in the US over its first three days. While that would be below The Force Awakens‘ first-weekend haul of $247 million, it would still be the second-biggest of all time, ahead of Jurassic World‘s $208 million opening in 2015.
The next Star Wars game is November’s Star Wars: Battlefront II. We recently played a portion of the campaign and you can read our thoughts on that here.

Shadowverse Is Introducing Portalcraft: A Whole New Class
Shadowverse developer Cygames today dropped some absolutely huge news for fans of its anime-flavoured CCG. Shadowverse Producer Yuito Kimura announced that alongside the next expansion – the game’s 7th set of cards – Shadowverse will be introducing formats to constructed play, as well as a whole new class – Portalcraft.
The two formats for constructed will be Rotation and Unlimited. Rotation will include all cards released in the five latest card sets, as well as select basic cards, and the total card pool will be around 500. That may sound like a lot, but if you consider that the game’s sixth card set, Starforged Legends, which was released at the end of September, brought the total number of cards to over 900, which means that the next set, which will hit at the end of the year, will bring the total pool to more than 1000, the number seems a lot smaller.

Luke Skywalker Returns to the Millennium Falcon
Disney and LucasFilm have unveiled another brief glimpse at Star Wars: The Last Jedi, debuting a fresh TV spot for the next chapter in the Star Wars saga during Game 7 of the Major League Baseball World Series in the US.
You can view the spot yourself here.
The short, 45-second teaser is largely built from snippets of the film we’ve already seen in previous trailers, although there are a few new shots, including a lingering one of a slightly-spellbound Luke Skywalker reentering the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. The TV spot also reiterated Luke’s perturbing line from the previous trailer: “This is not going to go the way you think.”

Metal Gear Solid 5 Finally Receives A PS4 Pro Update
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is currently one of the free PS Plus games of the month, and if you haven’t tried it out yet, there’s now another reason to jump in: Konami has finally released a patch that enhances the game on PS4 Pro.
The patch was announced on Monday on Twitter, and then it launched a day later. It’s a relatively modest update, but it still makes an already good-looking game even better. While you won’t see vastly overhauled textures, the game does run at a solid 2560×1440 resolution.
There’s not much else in the patch, however. According to Eurogamer, it has some minimal framerate improvements, but other than those and the resolution bump, the upgraded game is basically the same as the original. However, it’s always good to see another game get some PS4 Pro enhancements.
This is your last week to pick up MGS V for free through PS Plus. Next week, the current crop of games will be replaced with a new set that includes Bound, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, and R-Type Dimensions.
